JP Morgan Initiates Coverage of NG

JOHN BRIDGES, JP Morgan (12/13/2010)
"We are initiating coverage of NovaGold with an Overweight rating and a $19 year-end 2011 price target. Nova is an exploration company with development assets in Alaska and Canada's British Columbia province. The key issue major miners are facing is a shortage of large undeveloped properties, and Nova has stakes in three such assets. We think of Nova as being a long-dated option on metal prices. Additionally, with its slate of powerful investors, the company is well placed to optimize the value of its asset base.

Development-stage projects enhance metal price leverage; Nova has two. Development-stage assets offer significantly more sensitivity to metal price moves than do steady-state producers. We believe that Nova is an attractive vehicle for investors who (like us) see continued strength in the gold price. . .Donlin Creek is being developed jointly by Nova and Barrick Gold [and] Galore Creek is being developed jointly with major miner Teck."
