Junior Mining Space Gets a Lift

Junior Mining Weekly
"According to recent comments by Goldman Sachs, the global economy continues to grow at about 3.8% per year. This is clearly good news for metal prices and the resource-heavy TSX, which has recently pushed into new record territory. Even though the US economy has slowed, the strong fiscal stimulus implemented by the Fed evoked a positive response in US equities. All of this has, in turn, benefited the junior mining space. Why? We have mentioned on several occasions that, to create capital flow to the speculative juniors, some stability is needed within the large caps. Investor concerns regarding the equity markets have receded, and as the heavily resource-weighted TSX has outperformed, we suggest some capital has migrated to the small caps.

The TSX Venture Exchange has been trending higher over the last three weeks. Furthermore, daily volumes for the TSX Venture have continued to increase during this same time period, moving from averages of about 160 million shares traded to highs of 260 million. The average during the past week surpassed the 230 million shares traded per day mark, an indication to us that some speculative capital has flowed back into the sector. Although this relatively short upward trend is encouraging, from a technical
perspective we will wait for the TSX Venture to break through the 2,800 level on strong
volumes before believing this rally has some sustainability." (5/26/08)
