ERIC SPROTT, SPROTT ASSET MANAGEMENT
"...Ever the opportunist, Eric Sprott hasn't lost his touch for catching the rising stars of the resources sector.

"One of our big investments was the uranium area back in '03," recalls Sprott, lead manager of the $1.9-billion Sprott Canadian Equity and chairman, CEO and portfolio manager of Sprott Asset Management Inc. "We were able to go out and buy 5%, 10% and 20% of so many little guys trading below $1 a share that are big guys now. It's exactly what we do."...

Currently, the sector weightings in the equity fund are about 40% precious metals and about 40% energy. "We have reason to think that certain sectors will survive a U.S. financial quagmire," says Sprott, "and one that's always survived is the gold and precious metals area."

Sprott is also the lead manager of the $712-million Sprott Gold and Precious Minerals, though for this fund he relies heavily on the advice of the firm's chief investment strategist, John Embry. The fund has produced fourth-quartile returns in the Precious Metals Equity category over the past one and three years, but is a second-quartile performer over five years."(6/15/07)
