Greenspan - Return to the Gold Standard This quote is from an article Alan Greenspan wrote in 1966, “Gold and Economic Freedom,” for The Objectivist Newsletter. Two separate articles – “Alan Greenspan and Gold: Lingering Doubts?” by Don Luskin (Capitalist Magazine, 3/5/02) and “’66 Greenspan Article Supports Gold Standard” by Jon Dougherty (NetWorldDaily, 4/27/01) – report that Alan Greenspan still stands by the article, which he wrote in support of a gold-based U.S. economy, even though his Fed policies are diametrically opposed to those that would support such a standard. Don Luskin, in Capitalist Magazine, reports that Congressman Ron Paul told him, “. . . “Gold and Economic Freedom,” [was] a powerful plea for the gold standard published by radical capitalist Ayn Rand, then a close friend of Greenspan's. “I have an original copy and Greenspan signed it for me. I asked him if he still believes it, and he said he ‘wouldn't change a single word.’. . .”
