In a news release, Lion One Metals Ltd. (LIO:TSX.V; LOMLF:OTCQX) announced that surface sampling from the Navilawa tenement at its Tuvatu project in Fiji returned high-grade gold.
"These first surface sample results are very promising and, coupled with recently announced results from our controlled-source audio-magnetotelluric surveys that show robust structures underlying the region, suggest we should have a large pipeline of drill targets in time for the upcoming dry season," Dr. Quinton Hennigh, technical advisor to Lion One, said in the release.
New highlight assays from the Navilawa sampling included the following. At Banana Creek, samples returned 19.4 grams per ton (19.4 g/t) gold over 0.85 meters (0.85m), 10.83 g/t gold over 1m and 35.3 g/t gold over 0.45m.
Biliwi showed 60.4 g/t gold over 0.4m, 94.8 g/t gold over 0.4m, 17.9 g/t gold over 0.75m and 83.6 g/t gold over 0.45m.
Central Ridge demonstrated 12.55 g/t gold over 1.85m, and Kingston showed 6.26 g/t gold over 0.9m. Qalibua returned 7.85 g/t gold over 0.61m.
At Matanavatu, intercepts included 32.3 g/t gold over 0.65m and 35.88 g/t gold over 0.6m.
These data suggest there is high prospectivity along a corridor, 6 kilometers in length, that extends northeastward from the Tuvatu resource, according to the release. The Canadian exploration company expects to define targets in this area as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, Lion One stated that it intends to continue surface sampling over the next months "as it builds a pipeline of new drill targets to be tested during the upcoming dry season."
