The illegal strikes that spread throughout the South African mining sector have eased at three gold producers as workers returned and some mines resumed production.
Gold Fields had already resumed full production at one strike-hit mine, with another set to follow later this week, while AngloGold Ashanti is preparing operations to ramp up production.
Gold Fields spokesperson Sven Lunsche said on Monday that the company's Beatrix mine resumed full production shortly after workers returned about two weeks ago, while production at the KDC West mine was expected to reach full production by Tuesday or Wednesday.
However, operations at the KDC East mine, which was one of the last gold mines at which workers embarked on an illegal strike, on October 14, remained suspended while the company processed the appeals of about 7,000 of the 8,100 dismissed workers. This was expected to take a few days.
