Power Metallic Mines Inc. (PNPN:TSXV; PNPNF:OTCQB; IVV1:FSE) appoints BBA to lead a PEA targeted for H1 2027, following a maiden Lion resource of 4.746 million tonnes at 3.9% copper equivalent. Subsequent to the maiden resource announcement, which was based on drilling up to April 19, the company has reported additional high-grade drilling assays at depth.

Power Metallic Mines Inc. (PNPN:TSXV; PNPNF:OTCQB; IVV1:FSE) has appointed BBA Inc. as lead consultant for a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) on its Nisk Project in Québec, Canada. The study follows the company's September 2026 maiden resource estimate for the high-grade Lion deposit and recent drilling that extended mineralization at depth.

In an exclusive October 23 conversation with Streetwise Reports, CEO Terry Lynch described Power Metallic as a grade-focused story, arguing that higher-grade deposits can offer different development economics than larger, lower-grade operations. The company is now working to assess Lion's potential economics while continuing exploration and metallurgical studies across the broader Nisk district.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • BBA is leading a study focused primarily on Lion, with completion targeted for the first half of 2027.
  • Lion contains 4.145 million tonnes indicated at 3.86% CuEq (copper equivalent) and 0.601 million tonnes inferred at 4.01% CuEq, according to the September 2026 estimate.
  • Hole 26-125 returned 5.70 m (meters) at 14.00% CuEqRec (copper equivalent recovery), supporting further testing of mineralization at depth.
  • Additional testwork is expected to evaluate whether blending nickel and copper ore could improve nickel recoveries and expand the potential role of Nisk Main.
  • Lynch said the CA$28.2 million June financing supports the current drilling program.
  • S&P Global's 2026 outlook projected copper demand could reach 42 million metric tons by 2040, while warning of a potential supply shortfall if new production does not keep pace.

PEA Targets First Half of 2027

Power Metallic announced BBA's appointment on October 5, 2026. The PEA announcement said the study will focus primarily on the Lion deposit and evaluate mining and processing options, infrastructure, capital and operating costs, and preliminary project economics. Completion is targeted for the first half of 2027.

The role of the Nisk Main deposit in the study remains subject to additional metallurgical work from SGS Canada.

In the conversation with Streetwise Reports, Lynch said the company expected metallurgical results examining the potential benefits of processing nickel mineralization alongside copper ore toward the end of November 2026. Lynch said the company was also anticipating additional assay results from exploration drilling, including work southwest of the known Lion mineralization. He identified the metallurgical results and further exploration results as potential catalysts ahead of a planned Nasdaq listing, which he said could occur between late November and mid-December.

Maiden Resource Establishes High-Grade Foundation

Power Metallic's September 8, 2026, maiden Mineral Resource Estimate for Lion reported 4.145 million tonnes in the indicated category grading 3.86% copper equivalent (CuEq), plus 0.601 million tonnes inferred at 4.01% CuEq. More than 85% of the estimated Lion resource was classified as indicated. The estimate was based on drilling completed through April 19, 2026, with resource work undertaken by independent qualified persons at SGS Canada.

Lynch emphasized the importance of grade when assessing a potential mining operation. "It's about the metal contained tons," he told Streetwise Reports, arguing that investors should consider how much metal can be recovered relative to the amount of rock that must be mined and processed.

High grades reduce the volume of material that needs to be moved for a given amount of contained metal, but project economics also depend on recoveries, mine design, processing requirements, infrastructure, capital costs, and other factors. The PEA is intended to provide an initial economic assessment of the Lion resource.

Deep Drilling and Exploration Could Expand Lion

In a September 22 release, Power Metallic reported that deep extensional drilling had extended the Lion mineralized zone approximately 25% deeper than previously modeled. One highlighted result was 5.70 meters grading 14.00% CuEqRec in hole 26-125.

Lynch said the company plans to continue testing the deposit at depth, potentially drilling to approximately 1,200 meters, subject to results and the economics of deeper exploration. He also pointed to additional mineralized zones that were not included in the maiden resource because they did not meet the required continuity criteria.

Mike Niehuser of Roth reiterated a "Buy" rating and US$3.00 price target.

The company is exploring the use of muon technology alongside drilling and other geophysical techniques to help identify areas of potential mineralization. Lynch described the approach as a way to prioritize targets across the broader property, although any additional mineralization would need to be confirmed through exploration and evaluated before it could be included in a future resource estimate.

Power Metallic has expanded its district land package to approximately 330 square kilometers, according to Lynch. The company sees potential for multiple mineralized zones across the district, but the extent and economic significance of any additional deposits remain to be established.

Nisk Main Metallurgy Could Change Development Options

Alongside Lion, Power Metallic is evaluating whether nickel mineralization at Nisk Main could contribute more substantially to a future operation. Lynch said preliminary metallurgical observations suggested that blending nickel ore with copper ore might improve nickel recoveries.

"Their feeling is that this blending technique could bring the Nickel zone up to the 3.9 % CuEq obtained in the copper zone by getting better recoveries driven by the additional sulfur in the copper zone acting as a catalyst," said Lynch. The company is awaiting further testwork to assess that possibility.

If the anticipated recovery improvements are demonstrated and prove economically viable, Lynch said the Nisk Main deposit could become a more significant contributor to the project's overall metal inventory and potentially provide a second mining area. He discussed a possible increase in combined processing capacity from approximately 2,000 to 5,000 tonnes per day, but that scenario depends on the metallurgical results and subsequent technical and economic evaluation.

The company has not yet established those potential improvements as a confirmed development outcome. The planned testwork is therefore an important input for determining how Nisk Main could fit into future project studies.

Funding, Québec Infrastructure, and Planned Nasdaq Listing

Power Metallic raised approximately CA$28.2 million in June 2026. Lynch said the financing was intended to support the company's exploration program and confirmed in the interview that the current drilling program was funded.

He also highlighted the project's location in Québec, saying, "In our case, we drive off a route north right to our site, power is already on the site, so that cost is not going to have to be borne by us or our shareholders." Lynch said the company views regional infrastructure and relationships with Indigenous communities as important factors in advancing a potential mine.

Power Metallic is also preparing for a planned Nasdaq listing through an American depositary receipt structure. Lynch said the company was assessing the timing and financing associated with the proposed listing, including a potential US$15 million raise. He said the company had received indications of interest from prospective investors but had not finalized banking arrangements at the time of the conversation with Streetwise Reports. The listing and financing remain prospective. Their timing, terms, and completion are subject to market conditions and the company's final arrangements.

Copper Demand Grows Amid Limited New Discoveries

"Copper is obviously on fire, and the reason why that is is it's just bloody hard to find, and it's even harder to produce," said Lynch.

Copper demand is projected to increase as electrification, power-grid expansion, electric vehicles, and artificial intelligence infrastructure drive additional consumption. In its 2026 report, S&P Global projected global copper demand could rise from approximately 28 million metric tons in 2025 to 42 million metric tons by 2040. The study estimated that, without sufficient new supply, the market could face a shortfall of approximately 10 million metric tons by 2040.

Supply growth remains a challenge. In a September 2026 analysis of global copper discoveries, S&P Global reported that the pace of major new discoveries remains subdued, with exploration spending increasingly directed toward existing mining districts. Its analysis also put the average discovery-to-production timeline for copper projects at approximately 17.5 years, reflecting the time and investment required to develop new mines. The International Copper Study Group's April 2026 forecast projected global mine production growth of 1.6% in 2026 and 2.3% in 2027, while noting that its 2026 forecast had been revised downward because of lower expected output in several major producing countries.

For developers such as Power Metallic, these industry trends provide context for advancing new copper resources. However, a favorable demand outlook does not by itself establish the economic viability of an individual project, which depends on resource size and grade, metallurgical recoveries, capital and operating costs, permitting, financing, and other technical factors.

Analysts Assign 'Buy' Rating

Analysts have continued to follow Power Metallic's progress from exploration toward economic evaluation. On September 8, 2026, Hannam & Partners raised its price target to CA$2.70 per share from CA$2.38 following the release of the Lion resource estimate. The firm pointed to the project's high-grade, copper-rich resource and exposure to multiple metals.

Earlier coverage from Noble Capital Markets highlighted the Lion resource estimate, preliminary economic assessment (PEA), ongoing drilling, and potential U.S. national exchange listing as catalysts. In July, Noble maintained its "Outperform" rating and US$2.65 price target, citing the company's progress toward engineering studies and potential development.

Following the September resource estimate, Noble analyst Mark Reichman reiterated an "Outperform" rating and US$2.00 price target, describing the maiden Lion resource as a step toward de-risking the deposit.

Finally, on October 7, 2026, Mike Niehuser of Roth reiterated a "Buy" rating and US$3.00 price target, writing: "In our opinion, a listing in 2026 on a U.S. exchange, making results more visible and shares more available to a larger investor base, could add a premium of over 30% to our calculation, suggesting a value of ~CA$2.93 per share or US$2.11 per share. This does not include subsequent drill results, a fully funded 100,000m 2025/2026 drill program, or increasing the size of its land position."

Common Questions from Investors

What is the timeline for Power Metallic's Nisk PEA?

Power Metallic appointed BBA as lead consultant on October 5, 2026, and is targeting completion in the first half of 2027. The study will focus primarily on Lion and assess mining and processing options, infrastructure, capital and operating costs, and preliminary economics.

What did the maiden Lion resource estimate report?

The September 2026 estimate reported 4.145 million tonnes indicated at 3.86% CuEq and 0.601 million tonnes inferred at 4.01% CuEq. More than 85% of the estimated resource was classified as indicated. A mineral resource is not the same as a mineral reserve, and further work is needed to assess the resource's economic viability.

Why are the upcoming metallurgical results important?

The results are expected to assess whether blending nickel ore from Nisk Main with copper ore could improve nickel recoveries. If demonstrated and economically viable, that could affect the deposit's potential contribution to the project. The outcome has not yet been established.

What is the significance of the recent deep drilling?

The company reported a 5.70-meter intercept grading 14.00% CuEqRec in hole 26-125 and said the Lion zone extended approximately 25% deeper than previously modeled. Additional drilling will be needed to determine whether mineralization at depth can expand the resource.

What are the company's next potential catalysts?

Potential catalysts include further exploration assays, the Nisk Main metallurgical results, progress on the PEA, and the proposed Nasdaq listing. Management discussed anticipated timing during the October 23 conversation with Streetwise Reports, but those dates remain subject to change.

How could the copper market outlook affect Power Metallic?

S&P Global's 2026 analysis projected rising copper demand and a potential supply shortfall by 2040 if new supply does not keep pace. This creates a broader industry rationale for developing copper projects, but it does not guarantee future copper prices or establish the economics of Power Metallic's Nisk Project.
