Key Investor Takeaways

  • Goliath Resources' expanding gold discovery attracted investor attention: Newsletter author Chen Lin highlighted Goliath Resources Ltd. (GOT:TSX.V; GOTRF:OTCQX; B4IF:FSE) as having a potentially multimillion-ounce gold discovery while discussing acquisition opportunities among undervalued junior mining companies.
  • High-grade drilling results strengthened Goliath's exploration story: The company reported 9.89 g/t AuEq over 12.00 meters at its Surebet Discovery in British Columbia's Golden Triangle, expanded the mineralized footprint by 12%, and had 55 drill holes awaiting assay results.
  • Cash-rich gold producers could pursue junior mining acquisitions: Lin pointed to strong balance sheets, substantial free cash flow, and depressed junior mining valuations as conditions that could encourage acquisitions of promising gold exploration assets.

Gold Exploration Presents Opportunities Amid Market Weakness

Gold exploration opportunities were among the investment themes discussed by newsletter author Chen Lin of What Is Chen Buying? What Is Chen Selling? during an October 15 appearance on Turning Hard Times to Good Times, hosted by Jay Taylor.

Lin highlighted Goliath Resources Ltd. (GOT:TSX.V; GOTRF:OTCQX; B4IF:FSE) as a junior gold explorer with a potentially significant discovery.

The conversation centered on two different investment opportunities: undervalued mining companies that could attract interest from larger producers and software businesses seeking to establish market share before generating substantial revenue. Both discussions reflected Lin's interest in companies whose potential long-term value might not be reflected in their current share prices.

Goliath Resources Highlighted Among Potential Mining Acquisition Targets

Lin's comments about Goliath came during a broader discussion about the financial strength of major gold mining companies and the possibility that declining junior mining valuations could create acquisition opportunities. He argued that gold producers were entering a potentially challenging market environment with relatively strong balance sheets, limited debt, and substantial cash reserves.

"The balance sheet [is] very, very good. They have very little debt and a lot of cash," Lin said. He also emphasized the profitability of major producers, noting that margins remained elevated despite higher operating costs.

According to Lin, that financial position could allow established mining companies to pursue acquisitions if broader equity market weakness continued to pressure junior explorers.

"Even if there's a crash, I would say the gold mining company should do okay," he said, suggesting that producers could use their financial strength to acquire assets at discounted valuations.

Taylor expanded on the idea, asking whether cash-rich major producers could capitalize on market weakness by acquiring smaller companies with potentially viable mineral deposits. Lin agreed with the general premise and specifically brought up Goliath, identifying it as another junior explorer worth considering in that context.

"I will add the Goliath as another," Lin said, characterizing the company's exploration opportunity as a "big potentially multi-million discovery." He also acknowledged the project's geographic challenges, describing it as being in "a little bit cold place," but emphasized the apparent consistency of the company's drilling results.

"They seem to be hitting every hole they're hitting," Lin said. Although the wording was informal, his remarks conveyed a favorable impression of the company's exploration progress and the potential scale of its discovery.

Taylor subsequently agreed with Lin's assessment, saying, "No, Goliath. Absolutely." The discussion did not include specific drill intercepts, resource estimates, or economic studies for Goliath, but Lin's decision to introduce the company during a conversation about potential acquisitions positioned it among the junior explorers he believed warranted attention.

Gold Mining Companies Could Benefit From Strong Balance Sheets

Lin's interest in Goliath was closely connected to his broader assessment of the gold mining industry. He contrasted the current market environment with the technology-driven market collapse of 2000, explaining that gold prices were considerably higher in 2026 than they had been before the earlier downturn.

He acknowledged that a significant equity market correction could initially place pressure on gold prices as investors sold liquid assets to cover margin calls or other financial obligations. Nevertheless, he argued that major gold producers were financially better positioned than many investors might assume, pointing to high operating margins, strong free cash flow, and share repurchase activity as indications of financial strength.

"Almost every company [is] buying back their shares," Lin said. In his view, those conditions could provide major producers with the resources needed to pursue acquisitions rather than simply defend their existing operations.

That possibility was particularly relevant to junior explorers such as Goliath, which Lin identified as having potentially substantial discoveries. The investment argument was not that an acquisition was imminent, but that companies demonstrating exploration success could become increasingly interesting to larger producers searching for future sources of gold production.

Market Weakness Could Create Opportunities in Junior Mining Stocks

Lin also discussed the sharp divide between the performance of major market indices and smaller companies. He estimated that approximately 60% of stocks were experiencing conditions resembling a bear market, even as a relatively small number of large companies continued supporting the broader indices.

The market's increasingly narrow leadership reminded him of conditions preceding the technology stock collapse in 2000. He suggested that year-end tax-loss selling could create particularly attractive opportunities among junior mining companies whose shares had declined substantially.

"This year the tax selling is going to be a buffet," Lin said. He noted that some mining companies were trading well below the prices of their most recent financings, creating what he viewed as potential opportunities for investors willing to examine individual businesses.

His comments about Goliath fit within that broader discussion of junior exploration companies, although he did not provide a specific valuation or share-price target for the company. For investors following the junior gold sector, Lin's remarks highlighted the relationship between exploration results, market valuations, and the acquisition capacity of larger producers.

Gold Exploration Opportunities Amid Market Weakness

Lin's comments reflected an investment philosophy centered on identifying undervalued companies with promising assets and long-term potential. In the gold mining sector, he emphasized the opportunities presented by junior exploration companies that had demonstrated encouraging discoveries but remained exposed to weak market conditions and year-end tax-loss selling.

His decision to highlight Goliath Resources specifically reflected his favorable assessment of the company's exploration potential and the apparent consistency of its drilling success. Lin described Goliath as having a potentially multimillion-ounce discovery, placing it among the junior explorers he believed deserved attention as major gold producers evaluated opportunities to expand their portfolios.

"I will add the Goliath as another ... big potentially multi-million discovery," Chen Lin said.

Lin also pointed to the financial strength of established gold mining companies, including substantial cash reserves, limited debt, and strong free cash flow. He suggested that these conditions could allow major producers to pursue acquisitions of promising junior mining assets at discounted valuations, although he did not identify any specific acquisition plans involving Goliath.

Goliath's expanding Surebet Discovery, continued high-grade drilling results, and pending assays provided additional context for Lin's remarks. While further exploration and technical evaluation would be required to establish the discovery's full potential, the company's ongoing drilling program and planned 2027 expansion offered additional opportunities to evaluate the mineralized system.

Lin maintained that depressed valuations could create opportunities for investors prepared to assess longer-term developments rather than focusing exclusively on immediate share price performance. His comments underscored the importance he placed on exploration progress, asset quality, and the potential for financially strong producers to take advantage of weakness in the junior gold mining market.

Goliath's Expanding Gold Discovery Draws Attention

Goliath Resources Ltd. (GOT:TSX.V; GOTRF:OTCQX; B4IF:FSE) reported new assay results from its 100%-owned Golddigger Property in British Columbia's Golden Triangle, including 9.89 grams per tonne gold equivalent (g/t AuEq) over 12.00 meters from the Surebet Zone. Drill hole GD-26-483 included 28.81 g/t AuEq over 4.00 meters, with a higher-grade interval of 70.62 g/t AuEq over 1.12 meters. The company said the results confirmed grade continuity across the major mineralized zones at its Surebet Discovery.

Additional drilling returned mineralization across the Surebet, Big Bulk, Eldorado, Bonanza, and Golden Gate zones. At the newly identified Big Bulk Zone, drill hole GD-26-440 intersected 24.97 meters grading 0.70 g/t AuEq, including 7.05 meters grading 1.09 g/t AuEq. Other results included 9.74 g/t AuEq over 6.23 meters at Surebet, 4.21 g/t AuEq over 7.90 meters at Eldorado, and 8.71 g/t AuEq over 3.80 meters at Golden Gate.

The company's 2026 exploration program completed 48,443 meters across 97 drill holes using seven rigs operating around the clock for 94 days. The program expanded the Surebet system's footprint by 12%, from 1.8 to 2.01 square kilometers, while the Bonanza Zone grew to 1.51 square kilometers and Golden Gate expanded to 1.17 square kilometers. More than 200,000 meters have now been drilled across 483 holes at Surebet, with 412 holes, or 85%, containing visible gold to the naked eye.

"Every season at Surebet delivers positive surprises," founder and CEO Roger Rosmus said in the company's October 7 news release. "What began as a 2-kilometer surface outcrop has expanded into a remarkably continuous, high-grade gold system across stacked veins and multiple rock units within the last few years, featuring visible gold in 85% of our 483 drill holes." The company also identified the Big Bulk Zone between the Bonanza and Golden Gate zones, where mineralized structures converged and stacked veinlets extended across widths of up to 58 meters.

Stifel analyst Cole McGill discussed the discovery's expanding footprint in a July 15 research note, saying the results "showcase continuity of the Bonanza shear structure/host lithology (>1.8km x >1.8km corridor)." He added that additional step-out drilling had "the ability to put upward pressure on total ounce count of property." McGill based his valuation on Stifel's 4.2-million-ounce gold exploration target and valued Goliath at approximately US$45 per ounce. According to TipRanks, he reiterated a Buy rating on September 11, 2026, with a CA$4.25 price target.

Goliath also reported encouraging metallurgical results, with gold recoveries reaching 92.2% at a 327-micron crush using gravity and flotation. Approximately 48.8% of the gold was recovered through gravity alone, and the company stated that cyanide was not required for gold recovery. Its September corporate presentation also identified existing infrastructure, including a permitted mill site in Kitsault with tidewater barge access.

The company expected additional exploration results to provide further information about the discovery's size and continuity. As of its October 7 announcement, assays remained pending for 55 drill holes, with results expected to continue into early 2027. Goliath was updating its high-grade gold wireframe models and planned a comprehensive 2027 expansion and infill drilling program once the remaining 2026 results had been received, compiled, and modeled. Proposed drilling included northeast and southern expansion areas, along with additional targets within the existing Surebet system.
