Ray Dalio discussed U.S. debt, AI valuations, and geopolitical shifts; in the background, investment and industrial roles highlight Decade Resources Ltd.'s (DEC:TSX.V; DECXF:OTCPK) Bonaparte project.

Decade Resources Ltd. (DEC.V; DECXF) continues to investigate a potentially extensive copper-gold porphyry system at its Bonaparte property in British Columbia, where drilling has intersected porphyry-style intrusions and alteration in every hole that reached bedrock. The company's October 8, 2026, update reported two holes 1.2 km apart, with drilling and surface mapping suggesting a system more than 2 km wide.

The exploration program comes as investors weigh the macroeconomic themes discussed by investor Ray Dalio in an October 6, 2026, interview with Bloomberg Television. Dalio addressed mounting U.S. debt, rising interest rates, concentrated equity-market exposure, AI investment, and geopolitical competition. Even though Decade wasn't part of his commentary, his statements on AI financing and the changing geopolitical landscape provide context for copper demand and North American supply security.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • Ray Dalio's October 2026 interview focused on rising debt-service costs, interest-rate sensitivity, AI-related market concentration, and geopolitical competition.
  • S&P Global projected copper demand to rise from approximately 28 million metric tons in 2025 to 42 million metric tons by 2040, with a potential supply shortfall of about 10 million metric tons.
  • Decade Resources reported porphyry dykes and alteration in every Bonaparte drill hole that reached bedrock, with two holes 1.2 km (kilometers) apart suggesting a system more than 2 km wide.
  • U.S. tariffs and geopolitical shifts have increased attention on copper supply security, while data centers, grid upgrades, and electrification require copper-intensive infrastructure.
  • Decade also holds a 55% interest in the Del Norte silver-gold property in British Columbia's Golden Triangle, where historical drilling returned high-grade silver-gold intervals. True widths are unknown.

Dalio on Debt, Rates, and Concentration

In his October 6, 2026, interview, Ray Dalio described five forces shaping markets: debt cycles, internal political conditions, geopolitics, natural forces, and technological change. He emphasized the relationship between borrowing, debt-service costs, and economic activity, arguing that rising interest payments can gradually limit other spending. Dalio compared U.S. government finances to those of a business or individual, noting that the government spends approximately US$7 trillion annually while collecting about US$5 trillion in revenue. Persistent deficits, he explained, add to outstanding debt and increase the cost of servicing it.

"When debts accumulate faster than they're paid back, then debt service costs grow," Dalio said. He added that this process can squeeze other spending as debt-service obligations consume a greater share of available cash flow.

Asked whether a debt crisis could emerge within the next 24 to 36 months, Dalio said he believed the pressure could become more pronounced within three years. He also pointed to changing international capital flows, including the willingness of foreign creditors to continue financing U.S. borrowing. Dalio argued that the issue extends beyond the headline interest rate. When demand for capital exceeds available savings, borrowing costs rise until some borrowers are priced out. Housing and consumer lending could feel the pressure before capital-intensive projects such as data centers, he suggested.

He also discussed the implications for equities. As valuations rise, expected future returns can decline, while higher interest rates increase the discount rate applied to future corporate cash flows. In his view, the resulting sensitivity is particularly important in a market where a relatively small number of AI-related companies account for a substantial share of investor exposure. Dalio acknowledged AI's potential to improve productivity and transform businesses, but warned that enthusiasm can encourage excessive borrowing and investment. Drawing on historical market cycles, he explained that transformative technologies can produce speculative bubbles when investors borrow heavily to acquire assets based on uncertain future returns.

His central message to investors was direct: "The risk: concentration." He cautioned against placing too much capital in a single asset or theme simply because it appears especially promising.

From AI Spending to Copper Demand

Dalio did not discuss metals directly in his interview, but the spending he described has implications for the infrastructure needed to support AI. He said hyperscalers that previously raised equity are increasingly turning to borrowing and noted that financing requirements include "AI and other large expenditures." Whatever happens to AI stock valuations, data centers, grid upgrades, and electrification rely on copper-intensive electrical infrastructure.

According to S&P Global's 2026 study on copper demand, global copper demand is projected to rise from approximately 28 million metric tons in 2025 to 42 million metric tons by 2040. The study identified data centers, electrification, power-grid expansion, and other economic activity as sources of demand. It also warned that mined copper output could peak around 2030, leaving a potential supply shortfall of approximately 10 million metric tons by 2040. These figures are projections, not guaranteed outcomes, and actual supply and demand will depend on mine development, recycling, economic activity, and technological changes.

Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com said, "Actual assays coming soon will move the needle."

Dalio also described a world increasingly divided into regional geopolitical domains. Discussing the Americas, he said the region "is becoming very much like the tribute system."

He did not specifically address copper supply chains, but his statements provide a geopolitical context for U.S. efforts to secure strategically important materials.

The U.S. has treated copper as a national-security concern under Section 232. In April 2026, the administration revised tariffs on certain copper articles and derivative products, with rates ranging from 10% to 50% depending on the product category. The measures took effect on April 6, 2026. Reuters reported that the U.S. imported approximately 885,000 metric tons of copper in the first half of 2026, alongside record COMEX inventories. The flows reflected market responses to tariff expectations and price differences, rather than proving a permanent supply shortage.

A copper discovery in British Columbia would not automatically supply U.S. consumers or qualify for any particular tariff treatment. However, Canadian exploration takes place within the broader North American resource landscape, where governments and companies are assessing the availability of strategically important materials.

Bonaparte: Drilling Results to Date

Decade's Bonaparte copper-gold property is located approximately 50 km north of Kamloops, British Columbia, within a region that includes major porphyry copper operations. In an October 8, 2026, release, the company reported completing five drill holes totaling roughly 2,000 m (meters). Every hole that reached bedrock intersected porphyry dykes within altered rock. Two holes were collared 1.2 km apart, and Decade said surface mapping and drilling suggested a porphyry system extending more than 2 km across the Cooler Creek valley.

The sixth hole, DDH-BN-6, was advancing through strongly potassic-altered rock containing chalcopyrite and hydrothermal breccia. Assays were pending at the time of the announcement. The geological observations are consistent with the company's porphyry exploration target, but laboratory results are needed to establish metal grades.

This program followed a September expansion that added 1,000 m to planned drilling, bringing the minimum program to 4,000 m. Decade also reported staking approximately 1,400 hectares of additional ground and identifying mineralized porphyry outcrops about 5 km east of the principal drill area.

Del Norte: The Silver-Gold Asset

Decade also holds a 55% interest in the Del Norte silver-gold property in British Columbia's Golden Triangle, approximately 34 km east of Stewart. The property lies along the same geological horizon as the Eskay Creek mine, about 60 km north of Stewart. Historical drilling returned 1,091.6 g/t silver (Ag) and 4.28 g/t gold (Au) over 9.91 m in hole DDH-DN-21-10, and 1,039.95 g/t Ag over 10.98 m in DDH-DN-21-15, with a reported Au grade of 3.43 g/t. These are core lengths; true widths are unknown.

Dalio did not discuss silver or precious metals, but his comments on U.S. spending exceeding revenue, the risk of foreign creditors stepping back, and bonds losing value provide context for investor interest in hard assets amid financial uncertainty. Silver can be affected by both investment demand and industrial activity, so it is not a guaranteed hedge against debt concerns or market losses.

Moriarty Anticipates Further Assays

On October 8, 2026, Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com addressed some of the October results, writing, "For investors who have waited patiently for drilling, Decade has drilled and hit at the Bonaparte porphyry copper target in Northern BC. Based on visual inspection of the core from the completed holes, it appears Decade had hit their target with porphyry material discovered in holes spaced 1.2 km apart. A few shareholders who belong to the 'buy the rumor, sell the news' team are holding the stock price down, but actual assays coming soon will move the needle."
