Decade Resources Ltd. (DEC:TSX.V; DECXF:OTCPK) updated investors on Bonaparte drilling success, with porphyry intersected in every bedrock hole.

Decade Resources Ltd. (DEC:TSX.V; DECXF:OTCPK) continues to investigate a potentially extensive copper-gold porphyry system at its Bonaparte property in British Columbia, where drilling has intersected porphyry-style intrusions and alteration in every hole that reached bedrock.

In an October 12, 2026, interview with RocksAndStocksNews, President Ed Kruchkowski discussed the ongoing drill program, geological observations from the core, and plans to refine targets as additional data becomes available.

Key Takeaways

  • Decade Resources has intersected porphyry-style intrusions, alteration, quartz veining, and sulfides across multiple drill holes at its Bonaparte property in British Columbia.
  • Drilling and surface sampling suggest the porphyry system may extend more than 2 km (kilometers) wide, with additional areas remaining untested.
  • Soil sampling has identified anomalous copper, molybdenum, and gold, while further drilling and assays will help define the extent and grades of mineralization.
  • The company is also investigating historic gold-bearing quartz veins and altered surrounding rock, with gold values yet to be confirmed through current assays.
  • Copper demand is projected to rise as data centers, electrification, and power infrastructure expand, while supply constraints and U.S. tariff policy continue to influence the market.
  • Upcoming catalysts include assay results, completion of current drilling, and decisions on follow-up drilling and geophysical surveys.

Drilling Expands Understanding of the Porphyry System

In the interview, Kruchkowski said Decade has begun evaluating Bonaparte's historical induced polarization (IP) surveys, which identified a large chargeability anomaly that subsequent drilling has shown to contain both sulfide-bearing sedimentary rocks and a substantial porphyry intrusion. The company's first hole entered porphyry-style mineralization, and subsequent drilling has revealed extensive alteration, quartz veining, and sulfides.

DDH-BN-6, located approximately 1.2 km southwest of DDH-BN-2, has encountered porphyry intrusions interbedded with intensely altered rocks. Kruchkowski described finding pinkish, strongly altered intervals containing quartz veins and sulfides, with some features resembling those observed in the property's historic discovery area.

The company has also identified multiple intrusive phases, including diorite, quartz diorite associated with the porphyry system, and finer-grained intrusive rocks. Kruchkowski said the sequence may be important because earlier intrusions can fracture surrounding rock and create pathways for later intrusions and mineralizing fluids.

Drilling has encountered chalcopyrite, molybdenite, and calcite, alongside potassic alteration and hydrothermal breccias. Kruchkowski described the observations as encouraging but emphasized that the company needs assay results to establish metal grades and better understand the distribution of mineralization.

The drilling and surface work have helped Decade refine its interpretation of the system's boundaries. Kruchkowski said drilling south of holes five and six encountered less alteration, helping the team establish part of the system's southern edge. He identified areas east of DDH-BN-6 and DDH-BN-2 as priorities for further investigation, noting that surface rocks in that direction resemble material encountered in the drill core.

So far, the company has collected around 1,300 soil samples and additional rock samples to investigate possible mineralized zones beneath basalt cover. Initial soil sampling has identified anomalous copper, molybdenum, and gold occurring together in some samples south of the current drilling area.

Kruchkowski said the company is evaluating these results as part of a broader effort to identify additional mineralized centers. He also discussed the possibility that the known porphyry system extends beyond the limits of the original IP survey. The current interpretation suggests a system more than 2 km wide, although significant areas remain untested. Surface observations and geochemical sampling may help guide exploration beyond the areas covered by historical geophysical work.

Historic Gold Veins Add Another Exploration Dimension

Although the current program is focused on the porphyry target, Kruchkowski said the relationship between the intrusive rocks and the property's historic gold-bearing quartz veins remains an important area of investigation.

He described two generations of quartz veins: earlier white quartz veins that generally appear barren, and later gray, translucent quartz veins containing sulfides. The latter have been observed in DDH-BN-6 and, to a lesser extent, in DDH-BN-2. However, the gold content of these veins has not yet been established through assays.

Kruchkowski also noted that gold mineralization in the historic mine area was not confined to quartz veins. Previous work identified gold values in silicified porphyry, fault zones, and altered wall rock. He said the previous operator primarily assayed quartz veins, leaving uncertainty about the metal content of the surrounding rock. Decade's approach is to assay the core more comprehensively to improve its understanding of the mineralized system.

Copper & Gold Market Movements

Demand for copper is expected to grow as investment in data centers, power grids, electric vehicles, and defense applications expands. A 2026 study from S&P Global projected that global copper demand will increase from approximately 28 million metric tons in 2025 to 42 million metric tons by 2040, a rise of about 50%. The study identified core economic activity and the transition to new energy sources as the largest contributors to additional demand, while AI data centers and defense represent emerging growth drivers.

Supply growth remains a key consideration as demand increases. In a separate January 2026 report, S&P Global warned that the copper market could face a shortfall of approximately 10 million metric tons by 2040 without significant additions to global supply. The report projected that mined copper production could peak around 2030 before declining as existing mines age, with recycled copper meeting only part of the additional demand. The International Energy Agency also tracks copper as a critical mineral, with its 2026 Critical Minerals Data Explorer providing updated demand projections under multiple energy and technology scenarios.

U.S. trade policy has also influenced copper markets and inventories. On April 2, 2026, the White House modified the Section 232 tariff regime for copper, among other metals, so that applicable duties would generally be assessed on the full customs value of covered products rather than only their metal content. The proclamation established additional duties ranging from 10% to 50%, depending on the product, its origin, and its treatment under the applicable provisions.

Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com said, "Actual assays coming soon will move the needle."

The tariff changes have contributed to unusual flows of copper into the United States. Reuters reported in August 2026 that U.S. copper imports reached 885,000 metric tons during the first half of the year, while COMEX inventories climbed to a record 675,185 tons as traders responded to the prospect of future tariffs on refined copper. Meanwhile, copper prices on the London Metal Exchange approached record levels, illustrating how tariff expectations have affected the distribution of available metal even as the global market remains sensitive to supply disruptions and demand growth.

Domestic copper supply remains another consideration for the U.S. market. The U.S. Geological Survey's 2026 Mineral Commodity Summaries estimated U.S. mine production at approximately 1 million metric tons in 2025, down from 1.05 million metric tons in 2024, while refined copper production was estimated at 850,000 metric tons. The USGS also added copper to the U.S. critical minerals list in 2025.

Gold markets have also experienced significant price volatility in 2026. On October 16, gold futures were trading near US$4,200 per ounce following a rebound supported by a weaker U.S. dollar and declining Treasury yields. Prices remained below their January highs, as shifting interest-rate expectations and inflation concerns continued to influence investor sentiment. The Wall Street Journal reported the latest price movement, highlighting the influence of bond yields and currency fluctuations on the precious metal.

Despite the recent pullback, longer-term gold demand remains supported by investment activity and central-bank purchases. The World Gold Council's Q2 2026 report put first-half global gold demand at 2,522 metric tons, up 2% year over year, with the value of demand reaching a record US$380 billion. The organization identified investment demand as a principal driver for the remainder of 2026, while noting that elevated prices continued to weigh on jewelry consumption and that mine production and recycling offered limited potential for supply growth.

Moriarty Expects Stock to Move

On October 8, 2026, Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com addressed some of the October results, writing, "For investors who have waited patiently for drilling, Decade has drilled and hit at the Bonaparte porphyry copper target in Northern BC. Based on visual inspection of the core from the completed holes, it appears Decade had hit their target with porphyry material discovered in holes spaced 1.2 km apart. A few shareholders who belong to the 'buy the rumor, sell the news' team are holding the stock price down, but actual assays coming soon will move the needle."

At the time of writing, Decade's stock is trading at CA$0.13 per share.

Next Drilling Steps Depend on Results and Conditions

At the time of the interview, Decade was working to complete DDH-BN-6 and considering drilling another hole between DDH-BN-2 and DDH-BN-6 at a steeper angle. Kruchkowski said the team would weigh the cost and information gained from extending the existing hole against the potential benefits of testing a new location.

He also described drilling challenges associated with faulted and highly broken rock, which can slow progress and increase wear on equipment. Laboratory turnaround times have added another constraint, with some assay results taking several months. The company plans to use the combined drilling, geochemical, and geological data to refine its model and determine subsequent exploration priorities.

Further work could include additional geophysical surveys after the drill results are incorporated into the geological interpretation. Kruchkowski said the team is also collecting samples for thin-section studies to better understand the sequence and timing of intrusive and mineralizing events.
