Bullfrog Gold Corp. (FROG:TSXV; BFROF:OTCQX) is preparing to drill its South Bullfrog project in Nevada, where years of exploration have identified promising gold targets on previously overlooked ground surrounded by major discoveries.
In a Nevada gold district containing more than 21 million ounces of gold resources, major mining companies have spent hundreds of millions of dollars acquiring properties. Yet one substantial piece of land in the middle of it all remained unstaked until 2021.
That was the opportunity Bullfrog Gold Corporation identified in the Beatty district, where its South Bullfrog project now covers 10,050 acres between major gold deposits controlled by AngloGold Ashanti Plc (AU:NYSE; ANG:JSE)
The reason the property may have been overlooked was surprisingly simple: much of its geology was hidden beneath a shallow layer of gravel.
"There's this hole in the middle of the district that had never been staked," Chairman and CEO Ian Slater told Streetwise Reports during a recent interview.
Bullfrog secured the property in 2021, before AngloGold completed a series of acquisitions that consolidated much of the surrounding district. Now, after several years of geological investigation, the company is preparing a fully funded 3,000-meter drilling program scheduled to begin in November.
What Lies Beneath the Gravel?
According to Bullfrog's October 2026 investor presentation, the Beatty district contains more than 21 million ounces of gold in resources and has produced more than 2.3 million ounces historically. Those figures belong to the surrounding district, not Bullfrog's property.
AngloGold assembled its position through acquisitions, including Corvus Gold Inc. for approximately US$370 million, Coeur Sterling for US$150 million, and Augusta Gold Corp. for CA$197 million.
Bullfrog, meanwhile, holds a 100% interest in its 488 Bureau of Land Management claims, without underlying royalties or obligations to previous operators, according to management.
Jeff Clark, Daniel Flynn, and Sharyn Alexander of The Paydirt Prospector wrote, "Bullfrog has assembled a credible geological case."
The company's exploration team believes the property's geological characteristics could be significant because much of the eastern portion is covered by just one to five meters of alluvial material.
"So you can't see this alteration, which is probably why it wasn't staked historically," Slater explained.
That cover potentially concealed geological features associated with the hydrothermal systems responsible for mineralization elsewhere in the district.
Bullfrog subsequently completed extensive mapping, geochemical sampling, and geophysical surveys, including 546 rock samples, 267 stream sediment samples, and 1,867 soil samples.
The work identified five priority targets: Longtail, Shingleback, Bottoms-Up, Sledge, and Southeast Block (SE Block).
At Longtail, the company identified a magnetic low approximately one kilometer across, coinciding with elevated mercury in soil samples, a resistivity anomaly, and hydrothermal alteration visible through a small opening in the gravel.
Slater said the different exploration methods produced unusually clear overlapping targets.
"And the geophysics couldn't have come out more clearly where those targets are," he said. "And same with the geochemistry."
Could This Be Another Silicon?
One of Bullfrog's more intriguing exploration theories involves similarities between Longtail and AngloGold's Silicon gold deposit.
The company's presentation identifies comparable geological characteristics, including caldera-related alteration, regional fault structures, and extensive steam-heated alteration.
Slater said Longtail and Southeast Block were being evaluated for similarities to Silicon and Merlin, while the western targets offered potential for higher-grade vein-style mineralization.
"So this one I'm really excited about," he said of Longtail. "If we hit on this one ... it's another Silicon, right? It'll be really very, very, very, very interesting."
The comparison remains an exploration hypothesis. Bullfrog has not established a mineral resource at South Bullfrog, and drilling will determine whether the identified anomalies contain significant gold mineralization.
The company's western targets offer a different opportunity. Shingleback contains numerous historical workings and a substantial geophysical anomaly near the intersection of two faults.
Slater said the western targets could offer a greater likelihood of intersecting mineralization, although potentially on a smaller scale than the larger eastern targets.
CA$7 Million in Cash and Drilling Ahead
Bullfrog's October presentation reported approximately CA$7 million in cash, with Major Drilling engaged for a fully funded 3,000-meter Phase 1 program beginning in October.
In a September 3 report, Jeff Clark, Daniel Flynn, and Sharyn Alexander of The Paydirt Prospector described Bullfrog's property as a "donut hole" surrounded by AngloGold's holdings. The analysts highlighted its strategic location, geological similarities to nearby deposits, and upcoming drilling program, while emphasizing that the exploration potential remained unproven.
"Bullfrog has assembled a credible geological case, but the thesis remains untested," Alexander wrote. The newsletter also suggested that a successful discovery could increase the property's strategic value within the district.
The initial campaign calls for approximately 1,500 meters each at Longtail and Shingleback, with additional exploration continuing elsewhere on the property.
"If we hit, we're going to keep going," Slater said, explaining that the company could expand successful drilling or move toward other targets.
The company also expects additional results from surface exploration at Southeast Block, where management identified extensive alteration and fault structures.
Slater brings more than 30 years of mining experience to Bullfrog, including previous service as managing partner of EY's Canadian mining practice and founder of developing companies such as Outcrop Silver & Gold Corp. (OCG:TSX.V; OCGSF:OTCQX; MRG1:DE) and Copper Giant Resources Corp. (CGNT:TSXV; CGNRF:OTCQX; 29H0:FSE).
Vice President of Exploration Dan MacNeil, a former Barrick geologist with extensive Nevada experience, identified the original South Bullfrog opportunity.
The company's October presentation listed 121.4 million shares outstanding and approximately 149.6 million on a fully diluted basis.
For investors, the next milestone is the commencement of drilling, followed by results that could provide the first direct test of the company's geological interpretation.
"We've got clear targets and own the property outright," Slater said.
