Guanajuato Silver Co. Ltd. (GSVR:TSX.V; GSVRF:OTCQX) has linked its San Ignacio mine to the Bolanitos complex with an underground ramp finished ahead of schedule, a move it expects will cut costs and speed haulage.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • Guanajuato Silver broke through on a 267-meter underground ramp on September 30, ahead of schedule, connecting its San Ignacio mine to the Lucero mine within the Bolanitos complex.
  • The company expects lower operating costs, faster haulage to the Bolanitos plant, and better ventilation. The release gives no dollar figure for the savings.
  • The ramp cut several mineralized veins, with sampling returning 3.25 meters of 6.02 grams per tonne gold and 145 grams per tonne silver on Cecilia #4. A drilling program has started in the area.
  • Those samples were run at the company's own lab, which is not independent, and the results from outside labs are pending.
  • Toward year-end, the company plans a combined geologic model, updated resources and reserves, 2027 mine forecasts, and a new life of mine model.
  • Guanajuato Silver bought Bolanitos from Endeavour Silver in January for US$40 million up front, including a 1,600-tonne-per-day plant it called under-utilized.
  • Second-quarter revenue was US$42.5 million and net income was US$557,000, with Bolanitos costs elevated by a lack of prior development.
  • Peter Krauth of The Silver Stock Investor says the shares look oversold, while Research Capital's Stuart McDougall rates the stock Hold with a CA$0.55 target.
  • Silver is trading near US$61 per ounce, and industry accounts for about 58% of demand.

267 Meters That Turn Two Mines Into One

Guanajuato Silver Co. Ltd. (GSVR:TSX.V; GSVRF:OTCQX) has connected its San Ignacio mine to its Bolanitos mines complex underground, completing a 267-meter production ramp it expects will lower operating costs and speed haulage to the Bolanitos processing plant, the company announced on October 8.

The ramp, 4 meters (m) by 4.5 m, links San Ignacio to the Lucero mine, which sits centrally within the Bolanitos complex at its northern boundary with San Ignacio. Construction began in May after what the company called considerable engineering and preparation. Crews broke through on September 30, ahead of schedule.

Guanajuato Silver expects the connection to improve haulage rates and ventilation between the two operations and to shorten haulage times from San Ignacio to the Bolanitos plant.

"The completion of this connection tunnel is the first of many synergistic improvements that are planned as we move forward with a combined operation at the Bolanitos mines complex, which will include San Ignacio," Senior Vice-President of Mining Operations Rick Trotman said in the release. "This connection will allow us to increase ventilation at San Ignacio, while providing Bolanitos with access to mineralized material with cheaper haulage and better cycle times."

The Tunnel Hit Gold on the Way Through

The ramp did more than join two mines. As crews advanced, they cut through several mineralized structures, including projections of the Cecilia vein system. Sampling across the veins returned 3.25 m of 6.02 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 145 g/t silver on Cecilia #4, and 1.3 m of 2.68 g/t gold and 15 g/t silver on Cecilia #3. The company described the mineralization as well above cut-off grades and has started a drilling program in the area to define potential resource additions.

Those results carry a caveat. The samples were analyzed at Guanajuato Silver's own laboratory at Bolanitos, which is not independent. About 20% of the samples were sent to independent certified labs, and those results had not come back when the release was issued. The intervals are sample widths, and the company did not report true widths.

The cost and haulage benefits are also expected at this stage, and the release does not put a dollar figure on them. A planned loading pocket at San Ignacio is meant to reduce the number of transfer points and allow larger haulage equipment to come through from Bolanitos.

More integration work is scheduled toward year-end. The company plans a combined geologic model, updated resources and reserves, a property-wide exploration plan, 2027 mine forecasts, and a new life of mine model.

A US$40 Million Bet on Bolanitos Starts to Take Shape

Folding San Ignacio into Bolanitos has been the plan since Guanajuato Silver bought the complex from Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR:TSX; EXK:NYSE; EJD:FSE). The company announced the closing on January 15, paying US$30 million in cash and US$10 million in shares up front, with up to US$10 million more tied to production milestones. The purchase included a 1,600-tonne-per-day flotation plant that the company described at the time as under-utilized. San Ignacio sits next door, and ore from the mine had already been stockpiled for transport the short distance to that plant.

The integration has had costs. In its second-quarter results, released August 26, the company said operating costs at Bolanitos were elevated because of "an inherited lack of development at the mine." It had completed about 2,500 m of capital development there in 2026 as of August 15. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James Anderson said he was confident Bolanitos' production would improve in later quarters.

For the quarter, Guanajuato Silver reported revenue of US$42.5 million and net income of US$557,000, its second straight quarter in the black. It produced 347,481 ounces of silver and 3,653 ounces of gold and ended June with US$19.9 million in cash and short-term investments.

Research Capital Corp. analyst Stuart McDougall kept a Hold rating in an August 31 report and cut his price target to CA$0.55 .

The company operates the El Cubo and Valenciana mines complexes, Bolanitos, and San Ignacio in Guanajuato state, along with the Topia mine in Durango. Extraction at Valenciana is paused while the company focuses on exploration and mine planning there.

Two other recent moves round out the picture. On September 9, Guanajuato Silver named Colin Bower chief operating officer. Bower was vice-president of operations at First Majestic Silver Corp. (AG:TSX; AG:NYSE) from 2021 to 2025. On October 5, the company entered into an option agreement for its Lourdes property in northern Guanajuato with Zacatecas Silver Corp. (ZAC:TSX.V; ZCTSF:OTCQB; 7TV:FSE).

To earn a 100% interest, Zacatecas must pay US$225,000 in cash and issue US$600,000 in shares in three installments scheduled for the TSX Venture Exchange approval date and the first and second anniversaries of the agreement. The transaction is subject to the agreement's terms and applicable exchange approval.

If Zacatecas exercises the option, Guanajuato Silver will receive a 2% net smelter return royalty, half of which Zacatecas may repurchase for US$1 million before production begins.

Oversold or On Hold? Two Views of the Stock

Peter Krauth of The Silver Stock Investor wrote on October 7 that he holds a full weighting in Guanajuato Silver. "Shares are looking oversold and attractive to add at current levels," he wrote.

Krauth was responding to the October 5 Lourdes option. He said the deal brings Guanajuato Silver cash, shares, and a royalty while Zacatecas Silver pays to advance the project. It also frees the company to focus on El Horcon, where a 5,000-meter surface drilling program is underway.

Research Capital Corp. analyst Stuart McDougall kept a Hold rating in an August 31 report and cut his price target to CA$0.55 per share from CA$0.65. The shares were at CA$0.48.

He lowered the target after management paused extraction at Valenciana while it works to delineate additional mining areas and develop a revised mine plan. McDougall took Valenciana out of his valuation pending more clarity on its potential.

Costs rose in the second quarter, he wrote. Net income fell to US$0.5 million from US$5.7 million in the first quarter, largely on higher operating costs. Cash costs averaged US$49 per silver-equivalent ounce produced, up 18%, or nearly US$72 with corporate overhead, sustaining capital, and operating leases included, up 34%.

Roth Capital Partners analyst Joe Reagor maintained a Buy rating and a CA$0.70 price target .

The company spent US$9.5 million on development in the quarter, more than twice its total for all of 2025. McDougall expects that spending will continue and make operations more consistent. Crews and equipment from Valenciana have moved to El Cubo, San Ignacio, and Bolanitos, and he expects all three to improve over the rest of the year.

Roth Capital Partners analyst Joe Reagor maintained a Buy rating and a CA$0.70 price target on Guanajuato Silver in an August 28 research note. The target implied a 32% return from the CA$0.53 share price at the time of his report.

Second-quarter results "were below our expectations on most fronts," Reagor wrote. The company produced 3,653 ounces of gold and 347,481 ounces of silver, short of Roth's estimates of 6,039 ounces of gold and 418,000 ounces of silver. Revenue of US$42.5 million missed Roth's US$57.1 million estimate.

Reagor said the biggest problem was lower-than-expected throughput at Bolañitos. "At this point, it is fair to say that the transition of the mine from the prior operators has not gone smoothly, in our opinion," he wrote. After speaking with management, he said he believes "the issues that caused this are in the rearview and production should improve steadily over the coming quarters."

Roth lowered its estimates for the rest of 2026 but kept its target, because higher gold and silver prices offset the cuts, Reagor wrote.

The Precious Metal That Works for a Living

Silver rose about 2.8% on October 9 to roughly US$60.85 per ounce as the dollar softened and Treasury yields pulled back from 24-year highs, according to Trading Economics. It is up about 21% from a year ago and at about half its January record of US$121.64.

More than half of silver demand comes from industry. Industrial users consumed 657.4 million ounces in 2025, about 58% of the 1.13 billion-ounce total, the Silver Institute said in its World Silver Survey 2026.

In data centers, silver goes into contacts, connectors, switches, relays, circuit boards, semiconductor packaging, and power-management equipment, pv magazine USA reported on August 25. Solar panels are another major use. "AI, data centers, electric vehicles, and the electrification of everything are supporting demand," Silver Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Michael DiRienzo told the publication.

Gold has far less industrial exposure. Technology accounted for 80.4 tonnes of the 1,268.9 tonnes of gold demand in the second quarter, about 6%, according to the World Gold Council. Platinum has more. Automotive and industrial uses are forecast to make up about three-quarters of the 7.09 million ounces of platinum demand expected this year, the World Platinum Investment Council said on September 9.

Silver's industrial demand fell 3% in 2025 and is forecast to fall another 3% this year, mainly because solar manufacturers are using less silver per panel, the Silver Institute said. Gains tied to AI infrastructure, automotive, and grid investment offset part of the decline.

Demand still exceeded supply for a fifth straight year in 2025, and the institute forecasts a sixth deficit, of 46.3 million ounces, in 2026. Coin and bar demand rose 14% last year.

Common Questions from Investors

What does the new ramp connect? The 267-meter ramp connects the San Ignacio mine to the Lucero mine, which sits within the Bolanitos mines complex at its northern boundary with San Ignacio.

When was the connection completed? Crews broke through on September 30, ahead of schedule. Construction began in May, and the company announced the completion on October 8.

What benefits are expected from the connection? The company expects lower operating costs, better haulage rates, shorter haulage times to the Bolanitos plant, and improved ventilation. A planned loading pocket at San Ignacio is meant to reduce transfer points and allow larger equipment. These are expectations, and the release does not put a dollar figure on them.

Did the ramp development find new mineralization? Yes. It cut several structures, including projections of the Cecilia vein system. Sampling returned 3.25 m of 6.02 g/t gold and 145 g/t silver on Cecilia #4, and 1.3 m of 2.68 g/t gold and 15 g/t silver on Cecilia #3. A drilling program has started to define potential resource additions.

How reliable are those sample results? They were analyzed at Guanajuato Silver's own laboratory at Bolanitos, which is not independent. About 20% of the samples went to independent certified labs, and those results had not come back when the release was issued. The intervals are sample widths, not true widths.

What comes next for the combined operation? Toward year-end, the company plans a combined geologic model, updated resources and reserves, a property-wide exploration plan, 2027 mine forecasts, and a new life of mine model.

How did Guanajuato Silver come to own Bolanitos? It bought the complex from Endeavour Silver, announcing the closing on January 15. It paid US$30 million in cash and US$10 million in shares up front, with up to US$10 million more tied to production milestones. The purchase included a 1,600-tonne-per-day flotation plant.

How did the company perform in the second quarter? It reported revenue of US$42.5 million and net income of US$557,000, its second straight profitable quarter. The company said operating costs at Bolanitos were elevated because of "an inherited lack of development at the mine."

What is the analyst's view? Research Capital analyst Stuart McDougall kept a Hold rating on August 31 and cut his target to CA$0.55 from CA$0.65 after Guanajuato Silver paused extraction at Valenciana while it evaluates additional mining areas and develops a revised mine plan. He also noted rising costs.

How does industrial demand affect silver? Industrial users accounted for about 58% of silver demand in 2025, according to the Silver Institute, compared with about 6% for gold. The institute forecasts a sixth straight supply deficit in 2026.
