Sankamap Expands Fauro Exploration as New Gold Targets Emerge

Sankamap Metals Inc. (SCU:CSE'SKMPF:OTCMKTS) reported an expansion of its ongoing exploration program at its 24,100-hectare Fauro property in the Solomon Islands, where systematic prospecting has returned gold and copper values and moved into areas with limited or no historical exploration.

The company's prospecting program was designed to expand its geological and geochemical database through systematic geochemical sampling and detailed field observations. Sankamap said the resulting property-wide data set would be used to refine and prioritize existing exploration targets ahead of future drilling while identifying additional prospective areas.

Recent silt sampling returned up to 6.78 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from an area with no known historical sampling. Sankamap also reported surface sampling values of up to 116.0 g/t gold and 4.0% copper across the Fauro property.

"During recent reconnaissance and prospecting activities, the exploration team encountered several drainages where local artisanal miners were actively panning for gold," Chief Executive Officer John Florek said. "A representative grab sample of silt collected from one of these drainages returned 6.78 g/t Au, providing further evidence of an active gold-bearing system within the broader project area."

Sankamap said it had collected 829 samples across Fauro to date, with assays for 798 samples pending at the laboratory. Systematic sampling has expanded into portions of the property with limited or no historical exploration data, with the program intended to identify previously unrecognized mineralized zones and generate new exploration targets.

Previous prospecting at the Meriguna and Kiovakase targets returned rock sample values of up to 116 g/t gold at Meriguna and up to 4% copper at Kiovakase. Historical drilling, surface sampling, and geophysical surveys at Fauro have also identified multiple prospective near-surface epithermal gold systems.

Sankamap's 2026-2027 exploration program is focused on geological mapping and geochemical sampling to validate and expand upon historical results, refine existing targets, and identify additional prospective areas. Targeted geophysical surveys are also planned over high-priority areas to improve the company's geological understanding and refine targets ahead of future drilling.

"With 798 assays currently pending and in ongoing prospecting in progress and continuing, Sankamap's systematic prospecting program is significantly expanding the geological and geochemical coverage across Fauro, including areas that have seen little or no historical exploration," Florek said. "These results will be integrated with our data sets to refine the company's highest-priority targets as it advances toward additional planned geophysical surveys, followed by an initial drilling program."

Sample preparation and analysis were completed at ALS Global's Brisbane, Australia, facility, which is accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities and compliant with ISO/IEC 17025. Rock samples were analyzed using four-acid digestion methods on 34 elements, while rock and silt samples for gold were analyzed using fire assay with a 50-gram sample.

Gold and Copper Markets Draw Support From Price Resilience and Supply Trends

According to an October 2 report from Kitco News, Daniel Ghali, head of metals research at Deutsche Bank, said gold had remained resilient despite pressure from elevated bond yields.

"The pullback in gold, I would actually argue, has been incredibly limited," Ghali said. He pointed to official-sector purchases running at more than twice their 2021 pace and estimated that the network of institutional investors participating in gold had grown by roughly 70% since 2021. Looking toward the following year, Ghali said, "Positioning is low, gold is oversold as-is, and it's underowned. So this is a really great time for gold."

Ghali also discussed institutional diversification into the precious metal. "The bear market in treasuries is actually fueling part of the need for institutional investors to diversify," he said. He added that the shift was "fueling more diversification in gold within that alternatives mix."

Paydirt Prospector maintained a Buy recommendation on Sankamap, writing, "Our view hasn't changed ... Kuma remains the big discovery opportunity, while Fauro is increasingly giving Sankamap a credible second shot at significant copper-gold mineralization."

On copper, Ghali described what he considered an acutely constrained supply environment. "We're looking for an increasingly convex reaction function in copper prices relating to what we think is the most acutely scarce copper environment on record, dating back to the 1980s," he said.

Ghali estimated that the United States and China had locked up about 70% of the world's aboveground inventory pool and stated, "This is a really critically scarce copper environment, and we expect prices to rise as a result."

Trading Economics data on October 5 placed gold at US$4,156.62 per ounce, up 0.40% on the day and 4.95% over the previous year. The source reported that gold had climbed above US$4,150 per ounce as weaker-than-expected U.S. employment data reduced pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates further. Trading Economics described gold as "one of the most widely followed precious metals" and said it was often regarded as a safe-haven asset during periods of economic uncertainty, inflation, and geopolitical risk.

Copper stood at US$6.5472 per pound on October 5, up 0.85% on the day and 30.82% year over year, according to Trading Economics. The source reported that copper futures had climbed above US$6.50 per pound as weaker U.S. employment data reduced pressure for additional interest-rate increases. Longer-term demand expectations associated with the global expansion of data centers and renewable energy also supported copper, while Chilean production had fallen in August to its lowest level since February 2011. Trading Economics described copper as "one of the most widely used industrial metals in the world" and noted its role in construction, electronics, power generation, and renewable energy systems.

Third-Party Maintained Buy Recommendation as Fauro Advanced

In an October 1 report, Paydirt Prospector's Jeff Clark, Daniel Flynn, and Sharyn Alexander described Sankamap Metals Inc.'s Fauro exploration update as "encouraging" and pointed to the 798 samples awaiting assays across established targets and areas with little or no historical exploration.

The writers commented, "It's encouraging to see Fauro moving forward, because it reduces the 'all eggs in one basket' risk that comes with early-stage exploration." They also noted the planned IP geophysical survey and subsequent 2,000-to-3,000-meter drill program.

Paydirt maintained a Buy recommendation on Sankamap, writing, "Our view hasn't changed." They stated that "Kuma remains the big discovery opportunity, while Fauro is increasingly giving Sankamap a credible second shot at significant copper-gold mineralization." Addressing the shares, they added, "With the shares weaker in recent weeks, the current price still looks like a reasonable point to get exposure if you're comfortable with early-stage exploration risk."

Jeff Clark maintained his position, while Daniel Flynn said he had taken his first tranche following the publication's recommendation the previous month. The report did not disclose a target price.

Geophysics and Initial Drilling Form Next Steps at Fauro

Sankamap's corporate presentation identified Fauro as one of two 100%-owned copper and gold properties within its Oceania project. Because the presentation was issued in May, its exploration plans and status descriptions represented the company's outlook at that time and predated the September 29 Fauro update.

At the Meriguna target, the presentation reported historical drill intercepts of up to 115 meters at 0.89 g/t gold, including 35 meters at 2.08 g/t gold and 1 meter at 44.45 g/t gold. It also reported soil anomalies above 100 parts per billion gold covering approximately 100 by 500 meters over a magnetic high and said drilling remained open at depth and along strike.

A separate Meriguna slide identified a western magnetic high flanked by elevated chargeability that the company said suggested a copper-gold porphyry target that had yet to be drill tested.

At the Ballyorlo and Kiovakase targets, the May presentation reported drill intercepts of up to 6 meters at 1.52 g/t gold and soil anomalies above 500 parts per million copper covering approximately 500 by 300 meters over a magnetic high. At Kiovakase, elevated gold-in-soil anomalies extended across an area of approximately 1,000 meters, with elevated rock chip samples of up to 161 g/t and 169 g/t gold.

The presentation also detailed 2025 Kiovakase assay results, including rock samples of up to 19.25 g/t gold, with the 2025 sampling averaging 6.53 g/t gold. Copper values reached up to 4% in rock samples, which the company said were higher than historically reported and indicated potential for a porphyry target at depth. The assays also contained elevated epithermal pathfinder elements, including silver, arsenic, lead, and zinc.
