Algo Grande Copper Corp. (ALGR:TSX.V) has secured five years of surface access at its 100%-owned Adelita project in Sonora, Mexico, according to a September 30 release. The company's Mexican subsidiary, Exploraciones Margarita SA de CV, signed a temporary occupation agreement with Ejido Palos Chinos y su Anexo El Guamúchil in the municipality of Álamos. The agreement covers about 1,796 hectares of the Ejido's common-use lands, roughly 30% of the 5,895-hectare project, and runs through September 28, 2031.
Ejidos are communal landholding groups recognized under Mexican law, and explorers generally need their consent to work on Ejido land.
"Five years of secured access, approved by the Ejido's assembly, gives us the certainty to plan Adelita's exploration with discipline and a long-term view," Chief Executive Officer Enrico Gay said.
The deal arrives as the first assays from the company's Phase II drill program come in.
A Long-Term Deal on Ejido Lands
The Ejido's general assembly approved and signed the agreement on September 22 under Mexico's Agrarian Law. It was ratified before a notary public on September 30 and will be submitted to Mexico's National Agrarian Registry.
The agreement succeeds a relationship established under an earlier agreement with the Ejido, which is a host community for Adelita. Algo Grande said it negotiated the terms directly with the Ejido's elected representatives. The release did not disclose financial terms or which targets lie on Ejido land.
The company is committed to following Mexican environmental regulations and its code of conduct, which includes respect for internationally recognized human rights. It will continue community engagement under its 2026–2027 environmental, social, and governance (ESG) road map. On September 9, Algo Grande received a BB rating in its first Digbee ESG assessment.
"It also carries a responsibility we take seriously: to work transparently, to respect the land and the people who hold land rights, and to build a relationship that creates lasting value for the Ejido as the project advances," Enrico Gay said. "We thank the Ejido's authorities and members for their confidence."
Adelita and the Phase II Drill Program
Adelita lies in the Arizona-Sonora copper belt. Its main target is the high-grade Cerro Grande copper-gold-silver skarn discovery, which shows geophysical continuity along a corridor more than six kilometers long. Reprocessed geophysical data and field mapping suggest a possible porphyry system at depth, similar to major deposits in northwestern Mexico.
Phase II drilling began in June. The program calls for about 8,000 meters, including roughly 7,200 meters in 15 holes at Cerro Grande, the company said in May. Part of the program tests a 2.5-kilometer magnetic corridor that drone surveys traced northwest and south of the discovery.
Hole AG-CG-PH2-002 assayed at 30.23 meters grading 1.5% copper equivalent (CuEq) from 146.70 meters, including 3.55 meters at 9.4% CuEq and 1.20 meters at 15.8% CuEq. That interval sits about 100 meters above the mineralization intersected in the first campaign. Full assays from the hole added a second zone of 38.20 meters at 1.0% CuEq from 243.80 meters, for 68.43 meters across the two zones. The intervals are downhole lengths, and true widths have not been determined.
Algo Grande closed a CA$6.52 million financing in February. On September 1, it closed a CA$4.786 million private placement to help fund the expansion of Phase II.
Copper Holds Near Record Levels
Copper finished the third quarter strongly. The London Metal Exchange's benchmark three-month contract traded at US$14,416.50 per tonne on September 30, a 7.9% quarterly gain and a third consecutive monthly advance, Reuters reported via Kitco News.
Prices set a record of US$14,875 on September 10. Stronger Chinese factory data supported the market on September 30, while inventories in Shanghai Futures Exchange warehouses dropped to their lowest level since January 2024.
"I have believed since I was first informed about the company that they had the potential for a giant discovery," Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com wrote.
ING commodities strategist Ewa Manthey said, "Structural demand trends and constrained supply growth should help keep prices well supported through Q4."
Artificial intelligence (AI) is another source of demand. A January S&P Global report forecasts global copper use will increase 50%, from 28 million tonnes in 2025 to 42 million tonnes in 2040. Without significant new production, the market could face a shortfall of about 10 million tonnes.
S&P estimates AI and data centers will drive roughly 2 million tonnes of the additional demand. Data centers could consume as much as 14% of U.S. electricity by 2030, up from about 5% in 2025, and connecting them to the grid requires copper-intensive power lines, transformers, and other equipment.
Third Party Sees Giant Discovery Potential in Sonora
Assays from Adelita's Phase II program are arriving slowly because high gold and silver prices have increased demand for lab testing, Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com wrote on September 14.
The first reported hole, AG-CG-PH2-002, intersected 30.23 meters grading 1.5% copper equivalent in skarn about 100 meters above expectations, Moriarty noted. Within that interval, 3.55 meters averaged 5.26% copper, 311.8 grams per tonne (g/t) silver, and 2.22 g/t gold. Sonora accounts for about 80% of Mexico's copper production.
Moriarty cited the experience of Peter Megaw, Algo Grande's technical team lead and senior adviser, who founded MAG Silver Corp., acquired by Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS:TSX; PAAS:NYSE) in 2025. An expert in northern Mexico's mineral systems, Megaw is working on a project Moriarty described as a skarn, where metal-bearing fluids interact with limestone. Skarns can form around porphyry systems, and earlier drilling suggested a porphyry may lie deeper. Porphyries can contain large volumes of lower-grade material, while skarns may host narrower, higher-grade copper zones.
The latest assay, earlier Phase I results, and work by a previous operator led Moriarty to see potential for a district-scale discovery. Hole AG-CG-PH2-002 ended at 661.8 meters in barren granodiorite. Moriarty wrote that holes AG-CG-PH2-003 through AG-CG-PH2-005 had been completed and visually show long intervals of copper mineralization. Their assay results are still outstanding.
"I have believed since I was first informed about the company that they had the potential for a giant discovery," Moriarty wrote. He said results so far support his view that the shares are significantly undervalued and that further assays could lift the price.
"I'm in love with the story," Moriarty wrote in a June 16 Streetwise Reports article, adding, "The world needs more copper. A great deal more."
Robert Sinn of Goldfinger said on April 2 that Algo Grande has "tier-one technical backing." He cited Megaw and board member Raymond Jannas of ATEX Resources (ATX:TSX; ATXRF:OTCQX), both experienced in major exploration programs, along with the high-grade discovery, several skarn zones, the potential for a deeper porphyry, and room to expand.
¹Technical analyst Stewart Thomson rated Algo Grande a Speculative Buy on February 17, setting short- and long-term targets of CA$1 and CA$6.
