Algo Grande Copper Corp.'s (ALGR:TSX.V) CEO Enrico Gay says the early stages of its roughly 21-hole Sonora drill campaign are expanding the picture at the Cerro Grande discovery, with a second high-grade zone now confirmed.

Algo Grande Copper Corp. (ALGR:TSX.V) is advancing its planned 21-hole, approximately 8,000-meter Phase II drill program at its 100%-owned Adelita project in Sonora, Mexico. Chief Executive Officer Enrico Gay told Streetwise Reports that the company's read on the deposit is already being sharpened by the early results.

The second hole encountered two decently high-grade zones over 68 meters and helped define the boundary between the granodiorite and the limestone package hosting the mineralization — a distinction he called central to refining the geological model, he said.

With the third, fourth, and fifth already drilled, he said the picture of the limestone package in the area is coming into much clearer focus.

"We're pretty confident we're going to just continue to expand it from here on," he said. The third hole is "going to be particularly interesting" because it continues in limestone for what he believes is more than 400 meters, with assay results expected in three to four weeks, he added.

That second hole, AG-CG-PH2-002, is the subject of Algo Grande's September 23 release confirming full assay results at the Cerro Grande skarn discovery. The hole intersected two distinct high-grade copper-silver-gold zones totaling 68.43 meters of combined mineralization, averaging 1.2% copper-equivalent (CuEq) at an assumed 80% metallurgical recovery.

The previously reported upper zone graded 1.5% CuEq over 30.23 meters from 146.7 meters, including a higher-grade core of 3.55 meters at 9.4% CuEq. The newly reported lower zone graded 1% CuEq over 38.2 meters starting at 243.8 meters — about 67 meters below the base of the upper zone — including a higher-grade section of 11.5 meters at 2.0% CuEq. The hole also pinpointed, for the first time along this section of Cerro Grande, the base of the prospective limestone-skarn package, hitting unmineralized granodiorite at 364 meters — about 52 meters deeper than the company's preliminary September 11 estimate based on early core logging.

The first Phase II hole, AG-CG-PH2-001, logged a multi-phase quartz monzonite intrusive complex — at least four discrete pulses cutting the granodiorite host — alongside more than 250 meters of porphyry-style potassic-silicic alteration, which the company says is consistent with a long-lived magmatic-hydrothermal system. That hole also returned a coincident molybdenum anomaly averaging 32.6 ppm (parts per million) with a peak of 110 ppm over 15.58 meters.

The release also noted locally anomalous zinc (Zn) in both zones of hole 002 (up to 0.48% Zn), which hasn't been included in the CuEq calculations pending metallurgical testwork, and detailed standard QA/QC procedures — sample prep and analysis through ALS Laboratories in Hermosillo and Vancouver, with blind reference materials and blanks inserted throughout.

Phase II Program Momentum

The September 23 results build on Algo Grande's initial Phase II assays released September 11, 2026, when the company reported 30.23 meters grading 1.5% CuEq from 146.70 meters in AG-CG-PH2-002, including a 3.55-meter high-grade interval grading 9.4% CuEq and a separate 1.20-meter interval grading 15.8% CuEq. The second hole of the campaign is part of a systematic effort to extend the Cerro Grande discovery along a 2.5-kilometer magnetic trend outlined by a drone survey completed in May. Two rigs have been operating at Adelita since late July, with the second added to speed up the third hole while the first continued drilling Hole 2.

Algo Grande's Vice President of Exploration, João Rocha, EurGeol, said the hole accomplished exactly what it was designed to do. AG-CG-PH2-002 was meant to test the vertical extent and continuity of the Cerro Grande skarn system, and Rocha said the results confirmed that objective, with high-grade mineralization now demonstrated across two zones between 146.70 and 282 meters downhole.

"I'm in love with the story," Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com wrote.

He said the discovery of a second, discrete high-grade horizon roughly 67 meters below the first indicates the system runs deeper than a single mineralized pocket.

"This confirms that Cerro Grande is not a single lens but a multi-horizon skarn system with real vertical continuity," Rocha said, adding that with the zone still open along strike, up-dip, and at depth, the company believes "we are only beginning to define the scale of this discovery."

The company recently closed an oversubscribed private placement raising CA$4.79 million to fund exploration, including ongoing Adelita drilling as well as general working capital.

Hole 3 has already been drilled and is expected to deliver assays within three to four weeks. The hole remains in limestone for more than 400 meters, according to Gay's estimate, making its pending results a key part of the next phase of the campaign.

Third Party Sees Giant Discovery Potential in Sonora

The first assay results from Algo Grande Copper's Phase II drilling program at Adelita are beginning to arrive, although strong gold and silver prices have increased demand at laboratories and extended processing times, according to Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com on September 14.

Moriarty reviewed AG-CG-PH2-002, the first Phase II hole to report results, which cut 30.23 meters grading 1.5% copper equivalent within skarn mineralization. The zone appeared roughly 100 meters higher than expected and included a 3.55-meter higher-grade interval averaging 5.26% copper, 311.8 g/t silver, and 2.22 g/t gold. Adelita is located in Sonora, a major Mexican copper district that produces about 80% of the country's copper.

Moriarty also pointed to Algo Grande's technical connection with Dr. Peter Megaw, who specializes in northern Mexican mineral systems. He described Adelita's mineralization as consistent with a skarn environment, where hydrothermal fluids carrying metals react with limestone. Skarns can develop around porphyry systems, and earlier Adelita drilling has provided indications of a possible porphyry at depth. While porphyry deposits can generate extensive lower-grade mineralization, skarns can produce narrower zones carrying considerably higher copper grades.

The new result, together with Phase I drilling and historical work by the former operator, has led Moriarty to view Adelita as a potentially district-scale opportunity. The hole continued to 661.8 meters before drilling ended in fresh, largely barren granodiorite, leaving another 482.8 meters awaiting assay results. Holes AG-CG-PH2-003 through AG-CG-PH2-005 have also advanced, with AG-CG-PH2-004 ending at 411.15 meters while AG-CG-PH2-003 and AG-CG-PH2-005 remain in progress. Results from all three holes are still outstanding.

Moriarty continued to express strong optimism about Algo Grande and said additional assay results could materially influence the company's share price. "I have believed since I was first informed about the company that they had the potential for a giant discovery," he wrote, adding that results so far have strengthened his view that Algo Grande remains significantly undervalued.

"I'm in love with the story," Moriarty wrote about Algo Grande in a June 16 article for Streetwise Reports. He also emphasized the broader copper supply picture, writing, "The world needs more copper. A great deal more."

Robert Sinn of Goldfinger described Algo Grande on April 2 as having "tier-one technical backing," citing the involvement of Peter Megaw of MAG Silver and Raymond Jannas of ATEX Resources, both of whom have participated in major exploration efforts. Sinn also cited the company's high-grade copper discovery, multiple skarn zones, potential deeper porphyry system, and room for project expansion as factors that could attract investor attention.

1Technical analyst Stewart Thomson also took notice of Algo Grande on February 17, assigning the company a "Speculative Buy" rating and setting short- and long-term price targets of CA$1 and CA$6, respectively.

The Catalyst: Gold Dips as Dollar Firms, Long-Term Case Endures

Bernstein has reduced its long-range gold forecast but continues to see room for higher prices even if real interest rates rise, according to Sam Boughedda of Investing.com on September 21. Analyst Bob Brackett lowered the firm's 2030 target to US$5,600 an ounce from US$6,100 as interest-rate expectations shifted from cuts earlier this year toward two or three increases by 2027. Real rates have meanwhile risen to about 2.7% from 1.7% in early March.

Brackett noted that gold has remained resilient despite its typical inverse relationship with real rates. Gold ETF holdings have been broadly steady this year, while bullion held up following the Federal Reserve's latest rate increase. He said the metal "can rise with slowly rising real rates — the path we appear to be on," citing its performance between 2023 and 2025 as evidence.

Central-bank demand remains a key support in Bernstein's outlook. "We continue to believe central banks are not finished diversifying reserves away from the US dollar and other G7 currencies into gold," Brackett wrote, pointing out that China, Japan, and Saudi Arabia each still have gold allocations below 10% of their reserves.

A slowdown in central-bank buying represents the principal downside risk to the forecast. Brackett also said persistently high diesel and refined-product prices could add to inflation and strengthen expectations for further rate increases, while a change in congressional control after the U.S. midterm elections could reduce demand for gold as a safe-haven asset.

Gold prices retreated on Wednesday as a firmer U.S. dollar and expectations for additional Federal Reserve rate increases created near-term pressure, but the broader backdrop remains supportive for bullion, Scott Kanowsky wrote for Investing.com on September 23. Spot gold fell 1.3% to US$4,301.65 an ounce by 08:54 ET, while futures declined 0.9% to US$4,338.40. The U.S. dollar index gained 0.4% to 100.95, reaching its highest level since July 30 and making gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies.

"The greenback has become the ‘go to' haven for investors in times of uncertainty," David Morrison, senior market analyst at Trade Nation, said in a note. The dollar has also benefited from expectations that the Federal Reserve may maintain restrictive policy as energy-related inflation remains a concern. Oil prices were trading below US$100 a barrel as easing fears over Middle East supply disruptions and renewed diplomatic efforts reduced some of the immediate pressure on energy markets, although crude remains more than 60% above its level at the start of the year.

The Federal Reserve raised its policy rate by 25 basis points last week, while Chair Kevin Warsh indicated that further increases could be necessary if inflation remains persistent. St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem and Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee have likewise pointed to additional tightening. While higher rates and a stronger dollar are weighing on gold in the short term, elevated energy prices, persistent inflation risks, and continued uncertainty around monetary policy leave investors with reasons to maintain exposure to the precious metal.

Common Investor Questions

What did Algo Grande Copper announce on September 23? Full assay results from hole AG-CG-PH2-002 at the Cerro Grande skarn discovery, confirming two high-grade copper-silver-gold zones totaling 68.43 meters of combined mineralization, averaging 1.2% copper-equivalent at an assumed 80% metallurgical recovery.

What's new in this release compared to the September 11 update? A previously unreported lower zone: 38.2 meters grading 1.0% CuEq starting at 243.8 meters, about 67 meters below the upper zone reported September 11. The hole also revised the depth of the limestone-skarn package's base to 364 meters, roughly 52 meters deeper than the company's earlier estimate.

What did VP of Exploration João Rocha say about the results?  He said the hole confirmed Cerro Grande "is not a single lens but a multi-horizon skarn system with real vertical continuity," and that with the system still open along strike, up-dip, and at depth, the company believes it's "only beginning to define the scale of this discovery."

What did CEO Enrico Gay tell Streetwise Reports? Holes three, four, and five have already been drilled, sharpening the company's understanding of the limestone package, with hole three — expected to return assays in three to four weeks — of particular interest since it stayed in limestone for what he estimates is more than 400 meters.

What does hole AG-CG-PH2-001 show? A multi-phase quartz monzonite intrusive complex with more than 250 meters of porphyry-style alteration, plus a coincident molybdenum anomaly averaging 32.6 ppm over 15.58 meters — evidence the company says points to a long-lived magmatic-hydrothermal system at depth.

What do outside commentators think? 321gold's Bob Moriarty has called Adelita a potentially district-scale opportunity and said he believes the company has "the potential for a giant discovery."

Goldfinger's Robert Sinn cited the project's "tier-one technical backing," including geologists Peter Megaw and Raymond Jannas.

1Technical analyst Stewart Thomson has assigned a Speculative Buy rating with short- and long-term targets of CA$1 and CA$6.
