2026 Infill Drilling to Test and Refine CuMo Deposit

On September 22, 2026, Idaho Copper Corp. (COPR:NYSEAMERICAN) announced approval of its 2026 annual operating plan under its previously approved Exploration Plan of Operations for its CuMo project in Boise County, Idaho. The approval by the U.S. Forest Service, Boise National Forest, covers Idaho Copper's 2026 annual operating plan under the previously approved Exploration Plan of Operations and allows the company to proceed with this year's drilling, roadbuilding, and maintenance activities. The previously approved Exploration Plan of Operations followed a Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact issued by the U.S. Forest Service after completion of an Environmental Assessment.

In the release, Andrew Brodkey, CEO of Idaho Copper, commented, "Approval of our Exploration Plan of Operations and our 2026 annual operating plan is the culmination of a decade of work with the Forest Service, and it is the milestone that should turn CuMo from a concept into an active drill program. We have an approved plan, an accepted reclamation bond, and the other permits this project requires. In a country where federal permitting is often the single largest obstacle impeding advancement of a critical minerals deposit, that is a meaningful achievement."

Brodkey closed the release by saying, "Our priority for the balance of this season is infill drilling that tightens confidence in the existing deposit, and we plan to carry that work into a substantially larger campaign in 2027 aimed at completing the drilling needed for a Prefeasibility Study. Every foot we drill from here will be directed at advancing CuMo toward a development decision, and at doing so under the environmental commitments we have made to the Forest Service and to the communities around this project."

The company describes CuMo as one of the largest untapped copper deposits in the U.S. The project also contains molybdenum, silver, rhenium, and tungsten. Copper, silver, rhenium, and tungsten are included on the U.S. government's 2025 Critical Minerals List.

Copper Supply Outlook Keeps U.S. Exploration in Focus

Demand for copper is expected to increase as data-center construction, power-grid investment, electric vehicles, and defense applications expand. A 2026 study from S&P Global projected that global copper demand will rise from approximately 28 million metric tons in 2025 to 42 million metric tons by 2040, representing an increase of about 50%. The study identified core economic activity and energy source transitions as the largest reasons for additional demand, while AI data centers and defense represent emerging demand drivers.

Supply growth remains a consideration as demand expands. In a separate January 2026 report, S&P Global argued that, without significant additions to global supply, the copper market could face a shortfall of approximately 10 million metric tons by 2040. The study projects that mined copper production could peak around 2030 before declining as existing mines age, while recycled copper would cover only part of the additional demand. The International Energy Agency also continues to track copper as a critical mineral, with its 2026 Critical Minerals Data Explorer providing updated projections for copper demand under multiple energy and technology scenarios.

U.S. trade policy has also affected copper markets and inventories. On April 2, 2026, the White House modified the Section 232 tariff regime for copper, among other metals, so that applicable duties would generally be assessed on the full customs value of covered products rather than only their metal content. The proclamation established additional duties ranging from 10% to 50%, depending on the product, its origin, and its treatment under the applicable provisions.

The tariff changes have contributed to unusual flows of copper into the United States. Reuters reported in August 2026 that U.S. copper imports had reached 885,000 metric tons during the first half of 2026, while COMEX inventories had climbed to a record 675,185 tons as traders responded to the prospect of future tariffs on refined copper. At the same time, copper prices on the London Metal Exchange approached record levels, illustrating how U.S. tariff expectations have affected the distribution of available metal even as the broader global market remained sensitive to supply disruptions and demand growth.

U.S. copper supply remains an important consideration for the domestic market. The U.S. Geological Survey's 2026 Mineral Commodity Summaries estimated U.S. mine production at approximately 1 million metric tons in 2025, down from 1.05 million metric tons in 2024, while refined copper production was estimated at 850,000 metric tons. The USGS also added copper to the U.S. critical minerals list in 2025.

Experts Focus on CuMo Project Development

Investor Brett Richards discussed his excitement over the company on May 12, 2026, saying, "Our family office looks at new investment opportunities in the junior mining space. We look for a number of criteria. Today, we are focused on gold and copper, which currently make up about 70% of our asset mix, with silver, uranium, critical minerals, and base metals rounding out the portfolio. We tend to look at the people first, to make sure they have management and board members known to us, or at least known to the market, and with previous experience and (positive) track records of discovery, and exploration spending discipline. We then focus on jurisdiction, size/scale of the opportunity, grade and metallurgy, and access to infrastructure to assess the project's viability of going through development/study and into construction. From here, we make our core investment decisions — both strategic (long-term) and tactical (shorter term)."

Richards continued, saying, "Idaho Copper fits our family office mandate perfectly, as the team is located in the jurisdiction of the project, and have proven to be able to navigate the complexities of permitting in the State. Its historic brownfield Cu-Mo project is located in a prevalent mining area of Southern Idaho, and our view has the potential to be a leader in the region in copper and critical minerals. With well-documented national support from the U.S. government for both copper and critical minerals, Idaho Copper has the potential to deliver multiples in return to its shareholders. It is early days, but these are the exciting times!"

On July 9, 2026, Hunter Diamond of Diamond Equity Research initiated coverage on Idaho Copper after the company's NYSE listing, offering a US$22.75 valuation based on "progression along the development curve, from the updated PEA to the PFS and ultimately construction . . . with each milestone improving technical confidence and financing visibility."

Idaho Copper Plans Further Drilling and Economic Studies at CuMo

The company believes CuMo is among the largest undeveloped molybdenum deposits in the world. The CuMo project is located within the Boise National Forest in Idaho, in an area with existing infrastructure and a history of mining activity. The following are potential project upsides and upcoming catalysts:

  • Updated PEA (Preliminary Economic Assessment) incorporating ore sorting is expected to be published in 2026, with the company expecting improved economics compared with the 2020 PEA.
  • U.S. Forest Service approved the Exploration Plan of Operations in Q1 2025.
  • Drilling program planned for 2026-2027 to update geologic model.
  • PFS (Pre-Feasibility Study) to start immediately following PEA update publication.
  • Stockpile leaching and numerous other studies and investigations will start as part of PFS.
  • Baseline environmental work (for EIS) to commence during PFS.
