VR Resources Ltd. (VRR:TSXV; VRRCF:OTCQB; 5VR:FWB) hit 317 m at 0.77% CuEq at New Boston in Nevada, with mineralization continuing to 881 m and a newly identified porphyry intrusion at depth.

Key Takeaways

  • VR Resources' hole NB26-003 at New Boston intersected 317 m (meters) at 0.77% CuEq (copper equivalent) from surface, above another 419 m at 0.48% CuEq.
  • A standout 2 m section at 535 m graded 33.4% CuEq, driven by high tungsten, copper, and silver values.
  • The hole found a new mineralized diorite porphyry intrusion at about 610 m, within a 31 m interval grading 0.98% CuEq from 604 m to 635 m.
  • Mineralization in moly, copper, tungsten, silver and zinc occurs in stockwork veining that is continuous through the 881m hole, and the veining and related mineralization are open at depth.
  • The result demonstrates a kilometer-scale vertical dimension to the system, comparable with the 2.1-km strike length of mineralized sheeted veins exposed on surface.

Rising Copper Demand Supports Exploration Activity

Demand for copper is expected to rise due to continued use in electronics, especially with the widespread construction of new data centers and defense needs in the United States. A report from Businessworld claimed that "global copper demand is gradually shifting towards strategic and less price-sensitive sectors such as AI infrastructure, defense, power grids, and clean energy systems. By 2040, these categories are expected to account for nearly 45% of total copper demand, up from 32% in 2024."

Last year, the looming potential of President Donald Trump's tariffs sent copper prices surging in the U.S. as American investors stockpiled the metal. This hype created an overstocking of copper, widening the gap between futures and physical worth. "Collectively, inventories at the world's main exchanges have risen by more than 500,000 tons since the start of the year," stated a March 6, 2026, article by Bloomberg NewsTrump's July 30, 2025, proclamation imposed a 50% Section 232 tariff on the copper input value of semi-finished copper and copper-intensive derivative products, effective August 1, 2025. Effective April 6, 2026, a 50% tariff was applied to the full value of certain semi-finished copper products, while a 25% tariff applied to certain copper-intensive derivative products. This proclamation contemplated a phased universal duty on refined copper of 15% starting January 1, 2027, rising to 30% in 2028, subject to a presidential determination following the Commerce Department's June 30, 2026, report. Refined copper remains exempt as of August 2026.

The metals sector as a whole is showing signs of improvement. On May 7, 2026, Brian Taylor of  Recycling Today said that the World Bank Group has predicted that global metals and minerals prices will rise 17% in 2026, part of a 16% rise across all commodities that would mark the first annual increase since 2022.

Another in-demand metal is tungsten.

Although tungsten represents a relatively small segment of the global metals market, its recent performance has been notable compared with larger commodities. Project Blue estimates the market will be worth approximately US$16 billion in 2026, or about 5% of the copper market at current prices. Unlike copper, however, tungsten is characterized by limited transparency and liquidity because it is not traded on major exchanges. Despite those limitations, tungsten prices have risen significantly faster over the past year than commodities including gold and oil, according to an article by Mining.com.

U.S. efforts to strengthen domestic tungsten supply are also expected to reshape the market. Beginning January 1, 2027, restrictions on foreign tungsten sourcing are scheduled to take effect under an executive order signed by President Trump. Following the order, Robert Sinn of Goldfinger wrote on July 20, 2026, that the policy could create a significant re-rating opportunity for U.S. deposits containing tungsten, tantalum, molybdenum, and rare-earth magnet materials. He argued that defense contractors will increasingly need to establish that tungsten has not passed through prohibited supply chains, potentially increasing the value of U.S. tungsten projects with domestic concentration, refining, and powder-production capabilities.

The United States faces a significant supply challenge because China, Russia, and North Korea produce roughly 90% of the world's tungsten. That concentration has increased pressure on the U.S. to develop more reliable domestic sources, particularly as trade tensions with major producing countries have intensified following President Trump's tariffs.

VR Resources to Answer Supply Need

To answer the call for copper production, Vancouver-based junior exploration company, VR Resources Ltd. (VRR:TSXV; VRRCF:OTCQB; 5VR:FWB) evaluates, explores, and advances potential targets for copper, gold, and other critical minerals. The company's introduction page cites VR's goal as being to ". . .  leverage its experience and expertise in grassroots exploration towards early-stage discovery in order to capture the steepest part of the value creation curve in the exploration and mining process for its shareholders."

On August 26, 2026, VR reported assay results from drill hole NB26-003 at its New Boston polymetallic porphyry-skarn project in Nevada. The 881 m hole intersected continuous polymetallic stockwork veining and sulfide mineralization, with 0.77% copper equivalent (CuEq) over 317 m from surface, followed by 0.48% CuEq over 419 m starting at 460 m depth.

The upper interval included molybdenum (Mo), copper, and tungsten (WO3) mineralization, while the deeper interval was characterized by copper-molybdenum mineralization. Within the deeper interval, a 31 m section grading 0.98% CuEq, from 604 m to 635 m, included a newly discovered mineralized diorite porphyry intrusion at approximately 610 m and associated skarn. The company said the intrusion had not been identified on surface or in historical mapping.

The hole also returned high-grade WO3, Cu, and silver (Ag) mineralization in garnet marble skarn. A 2 m interval at 535 m graded 33.4% CuEq, including 1.48% WO3, 0.32% Cu, and 427 g/t Ag. Another 1 m sample in this zone returned 2.85% WO3, 0.62% Cu, and 830 g/t Ag.

Mineralization continued to the bottom of the hole, returning 0.35% CuEq over 7 m at 858 m associated with sulfide-bearing granite porphyry. VR Resources said the hole was terminated at 881 m because of unstable ground conditions, leaving the system open at depth.

VR reported 21 variably mineralized porphyry intrusions in NB26-003, ranging from 2.7 m to 868 m depth. The company believes that the 317 m near-surface interval is associated with quartz-garnet stockwork veining that extends for approximately 750 m along strike to the east.

Technical Analyst Sees Upside for VR Resources

In March 2026, Ben Pirie of Atrium Research discussed VR Resources' outlook, writing, "VR is advancing toward a catalyst-rich 2026 program, including follow-up drilling at New Boston and Bonita polymetallic porphyry systems in Nevada. Planned work programs are designed to test high-conviction geophysical anomalies and validate large-scale mineral system models, with multiple opportunities for discovery across jurisdictions with a history and pedigree in the global mining sector."

1On August 27, 2026, Technical Analyst Stewart Thomson shared his views on the stock in light of the above-mentioned assay results. He said, "VR Resources Ltd. is well-positioned to benefit from the structural deficit in critical metals supply. With a confirmed large-scale mineralization footprint in Nevada, a pipeline of geophysical targets, and a capital-efficient business model, the company offers a high-upside potential profile for investors seeking exposure to the critical metals theme." Thomson also reviewed the charts, saying, "From a technical analysis perspective, bullish charts show massive volume this week, which also implies a significant re-rating of the company is likely."

Thomson gave the company a Buy rating with a short-term target price of CA$0.60, a medium-term target of CA$1.70, and a long-term target of CA$2.30.

VR Resources Lines Up Additional Exploration Catalysts

In 2026, the company lists multiple catalysts, including:

  • VR plans follow-up drilling this fall at New Boston and intends to re-assay pulps from 2024 drill hole NB24-002 using sodium peroxide fusion to determine polymetallic grades for Cu, Ag, Mo, WO3, and zinc (Zn).
  • In February, the company announced the farm-out of its Empire and Silverback Cu-Ni-PGM-Au exploration strategy and land position in northwestern Ontario to Athos Metals, a private company. VR subsequently announced that Athos had completed a NI 43-101 technical report for the Empire District Project and entered into a merger agreement with Meed Growth Corp., a TSXV-listed capital pool company, as part of Athos' proposed go-public transaction. Follow-up drilling is anticipated for later summer or fall.
