Aztec Minerals Corp. (AZT:TSX.V; AZZTF:OTCQB) expanded its Tombstone project to 2,500 acres after completing the final agreement for its land consolidation program, with a maiden resource estimate planned for Q4 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • Aztec Minerals is completing its Tombstone land consolidation, adding 241 acres of surface rights and 414 acres of mineral rights in Arizona.
  • Tombstone has grown to about 2,500 acres, more than six times the 398-acre land package Aztec held in 2017.
  • The consolidation program cost about US$500,000, with no share dilution or finder's fees.
  • Recent drilling on acquired ground returned 88.4 m of 1.42 g/t gold (Au) and 14.58 g/t silver (Ag), or 1.69 g/t gold equivalent (AuEq).
  • Aztec expects a maiden Tombstone mineral resource estimate in Q4 2026, with additional drill results pending.

Tombstone Land Package Grows More Than Sixfold

On August 26, 2026, Aztec Minerals Corp. (AZT:TSX.V; AZZTF:OTCQB) announced that the company had completed the final agreement for its Tombstone gold-silver district land consolidation program in Cochise County, Arizona. The transaction encompasses 241 acres of surface rights and 414 acres of mineral rights across 30 historic patented lode claims, bringing the Tombstone package to 2,500 acres total. That represents more than six times the roughly 398 acres the company held when it first optioned the project in December 2017.

This transaction is the last in a series of acquisitions that began in late 2025. Together, the transactions are expected to cost approximately US$500,000 in cash, or about US$1,250 per surface acre. The company said no shares were issued and no finder's fees were paid as part of the consolidation program. The transactions were reported as follows:

  • January 2026 (closed May 11, 2026) — Acquisition from private vendors of two key parcels adjacent to the North Contention pit, together with any known and associated mineral-estate interests, for US$88,000, including resolution of an active tax-lien foreclosure and multiple legacy encumbrances. First step-out drilling on this newly acquired ground was reported in early August, headlined by 88.4 m averaging 1.42 g/t Au and 14.58 g/t Ag (1.69 g/t AuEq) in hole TR26-39 (please see news release dated August 5, 2026).
  • May 2026 — Acquisition of approximately 90 acres of patented claims, including the Emerald, Bunker Hill, Silver Plume, Verde, and Revenue claims, through the purchase and subsequent foreclosure of a secured promissory note (total cost approximately US$124,000).
  • July 2026 — Settlement and release agreement with a third party for US$25,000.
  • The agreement announced today, covering the remaining parcels for US$241,000 + back taxes.

Aztec Minerals CEO, Simon Dyakowski, commented: "When we optioned Tombstone in December 2017, the project covered 398 acres. Today, after years of strategic staking, claim purchases, and the land consolidation program completed with this agreement, our district position stands at approximately 2,500 acres — more than six times the ground we started with. Our team consolidated that ownership, for a total cash outlay that we believe represents exceptional value, and with surface access secured and the land package unified, we can now expand the modern, systematic exploration in this district."

The expanded land package is already supporting exploration. In August, Aztec reported that drill hole TR26-39, completed on ground acquired through the consolidation program, returned 88.4 m grading 1.42 g/t Au and 14.58 g/t Ag, equivalent to 1.69 g/t AuEq. The company has completed 90 RC holes during its 2025-2026 exploration program, with assays pending for holes TR26-40 through TR26-50.

Aztec expects the pending drill results to contribute to a maiden mineral resource estimate for Tombstone planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Metallurgical test work is also underway as the company continues to evaluate the district for gold-silver mineralization and deeper copper-lead-zinc-silver-gold CRD targets.

An exploration company focused on silver-gold projects in Sonora, Mexico, and Arizona, U.S., Aztec holds an 85% interest in the Tombstone property within the historic Tombstone silver district. The Tombstone project is a joint venture, and Aztec owns 85% interest in the project.

Gold Market Provides Tailwind for Exploration Companies

Junior miners and exploration companies hit the ground running this year after gold rallied to above US$5,500 per ounce in January. Many companies chose to begin exploration or production amid these highs. While prices have since fallen, and even dipped below US$4,000 in June, prices are still up 36% compared to August 2025, and Gold.org wrote that: "[T]he stage is set for a possible breakout. On the upside, clear catalysts — a worsening economy or renewed geopolitical shock, a shift towards lower interest-rate expectations, or a wave of dip buying — could reignite gold's momentum and lift it back towards US$4,500/oz or above."

As of yesterday, August 26, 2026, the market had surpassed that benchmark. More bullish still, JPMorgan set a year-end 2026 target of US$6,300 per ounce in February, citing sustained central bank and investor demand.

On August 26, 2027, Trading Economics wrote that "gold prices fell toward US$4,600 an ounce on Wednesday, on track to snap a three-session winning streak, as investors assessed fresh U.S. economic data for clues on the Federal Reserve's interest-rate path." U.S. financial data is showing: " The PCE price index rose 0.2% in July, above expectations for a 0.1% increase, while annual inflation reached 3.7% versus forecasts of 3.6%. Core PCE rose 0.2% month-over-month and 3.3% year-over-year, both in line with expectations. Consumer spending and income also came in slightly above forecasts. Separate data showed US GDP grew 1.5% in Q2, in line with the initial estimate, while durable goods orders rose 1.1% in July, beating expectations of 0.5%."

The article finished by stating: "Markets are now pricing around a 60% chance of the Fed leaving rates unchanged next month, down from 64% before the data, according to the CME FedWatch Tool."

The metals sector as a whole is also showing signs of improvement. On May 7, 2026, Brian Taylor of Recycling Today said that the World Bank Group has projected that its metals and minerals price index will rise 17% in 2026.

Analysts Watch Tombstone Ahead of Resource Estimate

Ben Pirie of Atrium Research reiterated a "Buy" rating and CA$0.45 price target for Aztec on August 5, 2026, after the company's latest RC drill hole results. Pirie wrote: "The batch of assays reported in [the previous] release [is] notable as the first two step-out holes drilled into the recently acquired North Extension Zone hit similar mineralization to the consistently strong mineralization we've seen throughout the Contention area. The two holes intersected thick oxide intervals starting essentially at surface and will grow the mineralized footprint materially. We look forward to the pending assays for other holes in this area. Further to the results in the North Extension Zone, the other holes reported also hit good mineralization, which will continue to stack ounces for the upcoming mineral resource estimate."

Looking to the future, Pirie told investors: "We remind readers of the company's intention to publish inaugural mineral resource estimates on both the Tombstone and Cervantes projects. We anticipate that the cutoff for drill results to be included in the Tombstone MRE will be soon, but AZT stated that [the] results, as well as those pending from holes TR26-40 to TR26-50, will be included."

The next day, Alina Islam of Red Cloud reiterated a "Buy" rating and price target of CA$0.60. Islam wrote: "Previously, almost all of Tombstone's growth came from the Contention zone, with the peripheral step-outs repeatedly coming back thin. These results from the North Extension zone change that, as it is the first genuinely new oxide zone that the company has opened since the Westside discovery in early 2025. We look forward to seeing additional assays from holes completed further north into this new zone, although at this stage, with two holes only, continuity and extent still need to be proven."

Finally, on August 26, 2026, Ron Struthers of PlayStocks wrote about Aztec after news of the final transaction, offering a "Buy" opinion, saying, "The stock has been moving steadily higher after the recent correction, and I expect a test of recent highs around CA$0.41 in the near term."

Tombstone Resource Estimate Expected in Q4 2026

The Northern Contention area drill program is expected to continue through September 2026, with results expected in Q4 2026. Tombstone's remaining results will be released as they become available, with an MRE (mineral resource estimate) expected in Q4 2026.

In Q2 2026, Aztec will begin planning for a 2026 exploration program for its Cervantes project in Mexico, according to the company's investor presentation.
