Sendero Resources Intersects 48 g/t Silver at Peñas Negras
On August 17, 2026, Sendero Resources Corp. (SEND:TSX.V) released drilling results from its 2026 reconnaissance drilling and rock sampling programs at its Peñas Negras polymetallic project in Argentina.
The reconnaissance program completed three diamond drill holes totaling 396 m and found that hole PNDH-201 returned 1.04 g/t Au over 1.5 m from 14 m depth, all within a broader halo of elevated gold values extending from surface to 46 m. The company noted that each of the three holes returned anomalous silver values, including PNDH-201's 48 g/t Ag over 1.5 m from 14 m and 28.2 g/t Ag over 1 m from 57 m. Hole PNDH-203 returned anomalous antimony values and "confirmed the presence of the Mogotes fault, further confirming the company's geological model and mineralization being associated with the structural framework of the Vicuña belt."
The rock sampling program totaled 453 samples across the property, returning up to 4.82 g/t Au and 18 g/t Ag in the north-northeast area. Sendero also reported "exceptionally anomalous gold samples" up to 1.65 g/t Au in the northwest area. Finally, sampling returned values of up to 5.13 g/t Ag in the southwest area.
"These results provide strong validation of our geological model for Penas Negras. This important step forward in defining the district scale potential of our strategic land package. We are especially pleased that the intermediate intrusive and volcanic host rocks, alteration, pathfinder geochemistry, stockwork veining, and Mogotes fault structural framework are all consistent with the characteristics of the world-class high-sulphidation epithermal and porphyry systems that host the Vicuña project deposits, located less than 15 km to the south-southeast," said Alex Gostevskikh, CEO of Sendero Resources.
Gostevskikh went on, saying: "The three holes completed to date, together with historical Anglo-American drilling, confirm the presence of a substantial high-sulphidation epithermal system, although its full dimensions remain to be defined. Importantly, the leached cap and emerging geochemical vectors support our thesis that a deeper porphyry copper-gold system may lie beneath the priority target area, with an extensive auriferous zone of advanced argillic alteration located immediately to the north-northeast. We are very encouraged by the results of our rock sampling program, which suggest that the target area may extend significantly farther to the north and northwest."
Finally, in a corporate update, Sendero stated that the company is financed to continue drilling at the target through the 2027 exploration season and that all exploration licenses are current and in compliance. According to the release, "The company is delighted to enjoy the support of the government of La Rioja, which has expressed its commitment to supporting Sendero Resources and future exploration at Penas Negras. This support reflects the provincial government's recognition of the geological potential of the Penas Negras district and its confidence in the company's approach to responsible exploration."
Sendero is headquartered in British Columbia, Canada, but operates in Argentina's renowned Vicuña belt.
Gold and Copper Demand Rising to Support Exploration
Junior miners and exploration companies hit the ground running this year after gold climbed above US$5,500 per ounce in January. While prices have since fallen, and even dipped below US$4,000 in June, gold prices are still up 31% compared to August 2025, and Gold.org wrote that: "[T]he stage is set for a possible breakout. On the upside, clear catalysts — a worsening economy or renewed geopolitical shock, a shift towards lower interest-rate expectations, or a wave of dip buying — could reignite gold's momentum and lift it back towards US$4,500/oz or above." As of the time of writing on August 18, 2026, gold was trading at US$4,355 per ounce.
Demand for copper is expected to rise due to continued use in electronics, especially with the widespread construction of new data centers and defense needs America is experiencing. A report from Businessworld claimed that "global copper demand is gradually shifting towards strategic and less price-sensitive sectors such as AI infrastructure, defense, power grids, and clean energy systems. By 2040, these categories are expected to account for nearly 45% of total copper demand, up from 32% in 2024."
Last year, the looming potential of President Donald Trump's tariffs drove copper prices in the U.S. as American investors stockpiled the metal. This hype created an overstocking of copper, widening the gap between futures and physical worth. "Collectively, inventories at the world's main exchanges have risen by more than 500,000 tons since the start of the year," stated a March 6, 2026, article by Bloomberg News. Trump's July 30, 2025, proclamation imposed a 50% Section 232 tariff on the copper input value of semi-finished copper and copper-intensive derivative products, effective August 1, 2025. Effective April 6, 2026, a 50% tariff was applied to the full value of semi-finished copper products, which collapsed the COMEX premium. This proclamation contemplated a phased universal duty on refined copper of 15% starting January 1, 2027, rising to 30% in 2028, subject to a presidential determination following the Commerce Department's June 30, 2026, report. Refined copper remains exempt as of August 2026.
On August 18, 2026, copper was trading at US$6.49, with Trading Economics stating that "signs of tightening global copper supply continued to provide a floor for prices, as the metal keeps flowing to the U.S. and China while becoming increasingly scarce elsewhere. Top producer Chile also expects copper production to fall 2.6% this year amid persistent setbacks at mines and development projects."
The metals sector as a whole is showing signs of improvement. On May 7, 2026, Brian Taylor of Recycling Today said that the World Bank Group has predicted that global metals and minerals prices will rise 17% in 2026, part of a 16% rise across all commodities that would mark the first annual increase since 2022.
Expert "Adores" Sendero's Position
Sendero caught the attention of Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com when he wrote about a potential business deal he encountered. Moriarty wrote: "Someone approached me recently with an expansive venture situated in the heart of the Vicuña Region in Argentina. Now, few individuals truly grasp this, but Argentina is open for business . . . Last year, Argentina was the sole nation in South or Central America to actually post a budget surplus."
To take advantage of this country's rich mining areas, Moriarty encouraged investors to take a look at Sendero, writing: "Sendero has filled its coffers and has roughly CA$5 million on hand to bankroll field exploration and a fully permitted drill program for 2026. Sendero currently commands a market cap [that is] significantly less expensive than its junior peers in the vicinity. In essence, the project is outstanding, the company enjoys incredible strategic supporters, and has cash in the bank. What's not to adore?"
Sendero Plans More Drilling Along Peñas Negras’ Mogotes Fault
Roughly 3 km of the Mogotes structural corridor within the Peñas Negras project still needs to be tested, and Sendero is expected to continue drilling in the upcoming season, according to the press release. Sendero said the plan will be to further advance "the newly identified geochemical targets at PN-NNW and PN-NNE, where rock sampling returned exceptional gold and silver values. These new geochemical targets now extend the potential mineralized system for up to nine km along strike."

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a high-sulphidation epithermal deposit?
A: A high-sulphidation epithermal deposit is a type of mineral system formed by hot, acidic hydrothermal fluids near the Earth's surface. These systems can contain gold, silver, and other metals and are sometimes associated with larger porphyry copper-gold systems at depth.
Q: What is a porphyry copper-gold system?
A: A porphyry copper-gold system is a large mineral deposit in which copper and gold are distributed through intrusive rocks and surrounding alteration zones. These systems can cover large areas and may contain multiple zones of mineralization.
Q: What are pathfinder elements in mineral exploration?
A: Pathfinder elements are chemical elements that can help geologists identify or trace a mineralized system. Elements such as arsenic, antimony, lead, zinc, and molybdenum can provide clues about the location, direction, or type of a hydrothermal mineral system.
Q: What is a structural corridor in mineral exploration?
A: A structural corridor is a zone of faults, fractures, or other geological structures that can provide pathways for mineral-rich fluids. These structures can therefore be important exploration targets, particularly for hydrothermal gold, silver, and polymetallic deposits.
