Nine Holes Confirm, Expand Resource
Getty Copper Inc. (GTC:TSX.V; GTCDF:OTCMKTS) released a second batch of assay results from Getty North on August 11, 2026, part of its 2026 spring exploration program at the Getty Project in British Columbia's Highland Valley District.
"This second batch of results from our 2026 spring drilling program is validating the thesis we set out at the beginning of the year: confirm the historical resource, demonstrate the potential to grow it, and materially advance our understanding of the geology across the Getty mineral claims. At Getty North, we are seeing strong consistency with the historical results, compelling near-surface grades, and mineralization extending well beyond previous drilling. Just as importantly, every hole is adding to our understanding of the system and helping us build a stronger geological foundation for the next phase of drilling," said CEO Ryan O'Regan in the release.
The presented results cover nine drill holes located on three cross sections through the Getty North porphyry copper deposit, aimed at both confirming the historical resource and testing for expansion potential. Highlights included:
- GN26-02: 480 m of 0.34% Cu and 0.6 g/t Ag (silver) from 3 m depth, including 117 m of 0.68% Cu and 1.1 g/t Ag from 3 m
- GN26-06: 462 m of 0.35% Cu and 0.5 g/t Ag from 12 m depth, including 168 m of 0.51% Cu and 0.7 g/t Ag from 150 m
- GN26-08: 324 m of 0.50% Cu and 0.8 g/t Ag from 33 m depth, including 57 m of 0.80% Cu and 1.7 g/t Ag from 36 m, and 72 m of 0.58% Cu and 0.8 g/t Ag from 237 m
- GN26-11: 194 m of 0.62% Cu and 0.9 g/t Ag from 27 m depth, including 69 m of 0.90% Cu and 1.3 g/t Ag from 30 m
- GN26-10: 72 m of 0.31% Cu and 0.5 g/t Ag from 45 m depth, including 39 m of 0.43% Cu and 0.6 g/t Ag from 66 m
- GN26-07: 183 m of 0.17% Cu and 0.3 g/t Ag from 439 m depth, including 35 m of 0.25% Cu and 0.4 g/t Ag from 442 m
- GN26-09: 81 m of 0.18% Cu and 0.2 g/t Ag from 399 m depth, and 69 m of 0.14% Cu and 0.2 g/t Ag from 633 m
- GN26-12: 172 m of 0.22% Cu and 0.3 g/t Ag from 288 m depth, including 45 m of 0.31% Cu and 0.4 g/t Ag from 300 m, and 86 m of 0.20% Cu and 0.3 g/t Ag from 547 m
The expansion holes extended known mineralization at Getty North, extending mineralization a further 60 m, to over 230 m beyond historical drilling. Resource confirmation holes were designed to drill down-plunge of the deposit, collecting multi-element assays under a full QA/QC protocol intended to upgrade the historical resource estimate to a modern standard and provide material for future metallurgical testwork. Several holes also intersected near-surface oxidized copper mineralization, which the company plans to characterize further through sequential leach assaying and mineralogical studies.
Core logging showed that copper sulfide mineralization occurred predominantly as chalcopyrite with local bornite, appearing in vein stockworks, sheeted vein zones, and disseminations tied to a multiphase porphyry intrusion.
The spring drilling program is now complete, totaling 28 holes and 10,807 m across Getty North and Getty South, with lower-than-budgeted drilling costs, allowing the company to drill more meters than the initially planned 8,000–10,000 m. Pending assay results for 16 more holes will be released as they become available.

Copper Demand Rises Amid Tariffs
Demand for copper is expected to rise due to continued use in electronics, especially with the widespread construction of new data centers and defense needs America is experiencing. A report from Businessworld claimed that "global copper demand is gradually shifting towards strategic and less price-sensitive sectors such as AI infrastructure, defense, power grids, and clean energy systems. By 2040, these categories are expected to account for nearly 45% of total copper demand, up from 32% in 2024."
Last year, the looming potential of President Donald Trump's tariffs sent copper prices surging in the U.S. as American investors stockpiled the metal. This hype created an overstocking of copper, widening the gap between futures and physical worth. "Collectively, inventories at the world's main exchanges have risen by more than 500,000 tons since the start of the year," stated a March 6, 2026 article by Bloomberg News. Trump's July 30, 2025, proclamation imposed a 50% Section 232 tariff on the copper input value of semi-finished copper and copper-intensive derivative products, effective August 1, 2025. Effective April 6, 2026, a 50% tariff was applied to the full value of semi-finished copper products, which collapsed the COMEX premium. This proclamation contemplated a phased universal duty on refined copper of 15% starting January 1, 2027, rising to 30% in 2028, subject to a presidential determination following the Commerce Department's June 30, 2026, report. Refined copper remains exempt as of August 2026.
Silver is up 1.22% coming out of the weekend, trading at US$65.81 per ounce as of August 17, 2026. Higher demand from electric cars, solar panels, and data centers is expected to support silver prices going forward. J.P. Morgan Global Research forecasts silver averaging US$70 per ounce across 2026 and reaching US$63 per ounce in Q4, revised down from earlier levels as physical market tightness unwinds.
The metals sector as a whole is showing signs of improvement. On May 7, 2026, Brian Taylor of Recycling Today said that the World Bank Group has predicted that global metals and minerals prices will rise 17% in 2026, part of a 16% rise across all commodities that would mark the first annual increase since 2022.
'Takeout Potential' as 'Clear as it Gets'
The Paydirt Prospector's Jeff Clark, Daniel Flynn, and Sharyn Alexander weighed in on Getty Copper on August 13, 2026, arguing that the company's "takeout potential is about as clear as it gets."
Their report stated that Getty Copper is following through on the intentions set out for its drill program, including: "confirm the historical porphyry resource, support a future higher-confidence resource estimate, and expand the deposit through step-out drilling."
"The stock rose a whopping 27% on the day of the latest release, suggesting investors are beginning to understand what's happening here. The good news is there's much more to come. If [remaining] results are equally strong, Getty has a clear opportunity to capitalize on this growing momentum," the report said.
In great praise, these experts gave the company a "Best Buy" rating, noting that they do not give that rating frequently or lightly. With an overweight position, they wrote: "Getty already had a clear takeout narrative. Now, drilling is repeatedly strengthening the case by confirming the historical resource and expanding mineralization over a larger area. The market is starting to notice. And there are clear catalysts on the way: assays in the near term, more drilling in the medium term, and a resource update further out. That's a very attractive setup."
5,000 More Meters of Drilling Planned in 2026
According to the press release, Getty Copper plans up to 5,000 m of drilling later in 2026, targeting further resource expansion as well as new exploration opportunities.
The company's investor presentation refers to 2026 as a "drilling year" but lays out 2027 as an anticipated "growth year," with the timeline as follows:
- Q1 2027: anticipated completion of resource drilling and updated studies
- Q2 2027: continued drilling of exploration targets
- H2 2027: Assessing toll-milling vs. standalone development and creating an advance permitting strategy
