Guanajuato Silver gains permits for 45 pads at El Horcon in Jalisco, Mexico. Phase 1 targets 5,000 meters in 2026 to test and expand a historical resource.

Guanajuato Silver Co. Ltd. (GSVR:TSX.V; GSVRF:OTCQX)  is moving forward with exploration at its El Horcon project after securing key drilling permits in Mexico. The company operates as a gold and silver producer with assets in central Mexico and now holds approval to test a property with a long mining history.

Gold and Silver Market Context for Investors

Gold prices have shown notable strength in recent periods. Prices reached a high of US$5,500 per ounce in January before easing, yet remain up 31% compared to August 2025. Gold.org noted that catalysts such as economic shifts or renewed geopolitical events could support further gains toward US$4,500 per ounce or higher. As of August 10, 2026, Trading Economics reported gold trading near US$4,366 per ounce, supported by a softening labor market and lower energy prices.

Silver has also advanced, trading at  US$65.77 per ounce as of August 10, 2026, up 2.37% in a single session. Demand from electric vehicles, solar panels, and data centers continues to underpin prices. Yahoo Finance cited forecasts from BlackRock and J.P. Morgan projecting silver above US$80 per ounce by the end of 2026 and potentially US$100 per ounce by 2030. Broader metals prices are expected to rise 17% in 2026, according to the World Bank, marking the first overall increase since 2022, as noted by Brian Taylor of Recycling Today.

Why Guanajuato Silver Stands Out Now

Guanajuato Silver Co. Ltd. (GSVR:TSX.V; GSVRF:OTCQX)  focuses on gold and silver production from mines in central Mexico. The company recently obtained formal approval from Mexican authorities to launch surface drilling at its wholly owned El Horcon project in Jalisco, located about 60-80 km northwest of Guanajuato city. This step adds a new exploration catalyst to an existing production base.

Unique Business Model and Asset Advantages

Guanajuato Silver acquired El Horcon through its 2022 purchase of Great Panther's Mexican assets. The property covers 7,908 hectares across 17 contiguous concessions and lies roughly 60-80 km northwest of the company's Bolanitos mine. Mineralization follows the regional extension of the Veta Madre vein system, featuring quartz-dominated gold-silver veins along with base metals. The company has mapped and surveyed more than five kilometers of tunnels, adits and old workings.

Key Catalyst: El Horcon Drill Program Details

The permits authorize up to 45 drill pads along a 3.7-km trend, covering about one-third of the property's identified structural prospectivity. The company plans a Phase 1 program of 5,000 meters in 2026, with holes averaging around 260 meters deep, plus one deeper hole to 500 meters. One of two Nevada-style diamond drill rigs acquired earlier this year, currently operating at El Cubo, is scheduled to move to El Horcon in August. These rigs can reach 1,000 meters and recover HQ-diameter core. The program aims to validate and expand the historical inferred mineral resource estimate both laterally and at depth while improving the geological understanding of the en echelon veins.

The 2017 historical inferred resource totaled more than 2.0 million silver-equivalent ounces from 162,140 tonnes grading 3.44 g/t gold, 76 g/t silver, 2.69% lead, and 3.79% zinc. The resource covered the Diamantillo, Diamantillo HW, Natividad, and San Guillermo veins, with the earlier drilling focused along about 650 meters of the Diamantillo vein. The company has stated that this estimate is historical and requires further validation through updated work and a new technical report.

Industry Timing Supports Exploration Momentum

With precious metals prices remaining elevated from prior years, junior producers and explorers have accelerated programs. Guanajuato Silver's ability to redeploy existing rigs and leverage acquired infrastructure positions it to advance El Horcon efficiently relative to greenfield projects.

Views and Project Potential

Joseph Reagor of Roth reiterated a Buy rating in May 2026 while adjusting the price target to CA$0.70. Peter Krauth of The Silver Stock Investor highlighted on August 5, 2026, that the Phase 1 program will improve understanding of El Horcon's vein systems and could enhance exploration potential. Krauth noted significant silver along with gold, lead, and zinc, plus extensive infrastructure that supports faster and lower-cost startups. He added that 5,000 meters of drilling should confirm and likely expand the resource, potentially leading to another producing asset and additional cash flow.

Additional Corporate Update

In separate news, a Mexican appeals court denied the company's appeal in its dispute with NucTech Mexico SA de CV, upholding a prior ruling on liability for the subsidiary Minera Mexicana Rosario SA de CV. The company indicated it will evaluate further legal options, and the liability has already been recorded in its December 31, 2025, financial statements.

Share Structure and Ownership Profile

Guanajuato Silver Company Ltd. has a market capitalization of CA$437.79 million with 758.81 million shares outstanding. The 52-week trading range spans CA$0.2550 to CA$1.1500. 1Institutions hold 16.69% of shares, management and insiders own 3.74%, and retail investors account for the remaining 79.57%.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • El Horcon permits allow drilling across a 3.7 km trend with up to 45 pads, representing about one-third of known structural potential.
  • Phase 1 drilling of 5,000 meters is scheduled for 2026 using an existing rig moving from El Cubo, targeting validation and expansion of a historical inferred mineral resource estimate exceeding 2.0 million silver-equivalent ounces.
  • The property benefits from historical underground infrastructure totaling five km and proximity to other company operations in central Mexico.
  • Precious metals prices remain supportive, with gold up 31% year-over-year and silver demand drivers, including electric vehicles and solar, remaining strong.
  • Analyst commentary points to potential resource growth and future cash-flow contribution if drilling confirms and expands mineralization.

Common Questions from Investors

Q: What does the receipt of drilling permits mean for a mining project?
A: Permits authorize specific surface drilling activities and limit the number and location of pads. They represent a regulatory milestone that allows exploration to proceed within defined parameters.

Q: Why review a historical mineral resource estimate?
A: Historical estimates provide geological context on past mineralization but must be verified and updated by a qualified person to qualify as current resources under modern reporting standards.

Q: How can drilling expand a resource laterally and at depth?
A: Lateral drilling tests continuation along strike of veins or structures. Drilling at depth tests mineralization below previously explored levels, both of which can increase the known size of a deposit.

Q: What factors influence the cost and speed of advancing a project like El Horcon?
A: Existing infrastructure, such as roads, power, and underground workings, can reduce capital requirements and timelines compared with new greenfield sites.

Guanajuato Silver continues to balance production operations with targeted exploration at El Horcon while monitoring legal matters and market conditions for precious metals.
