ESGold Corp. (ESAU:CSE; ESAUF:OTCQB; Z7D:FSE) announced receipt of Quebec's exploration authorization, allowing field preparations and contractor mobilization to begin at Montauban.
The company said the initial exploration program will systematically evaluate historical crown-pillar mineralization and test priority exploration targets developed through the integration of historical drilling, geological interpretation, Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) data, and its three-dimensional geological model. Initial drilling will focus on the historical crown-pillar area and selected priority exploration targets, with drill results to be incorporated into the company's geological model to guide subsequent district-scale exploration.
According to the company, the crown pillar has not previously been systematically evaluated using modern drilling, geophysics, and three-dimensional geological modeling. ESGold said the program is intended to better define the geometry, continuity, thickness, and grade distribution of near-surface mineralization within and surrounding the former mine workings. The company also plans to test selected step-out and exploration targets identified through ANT surveys, historical drilling and mine records, structural interpretation, and its integrated geological model.
ESGold said its initial ANT survey and modeling identified an interpreted mineralized corridor extending approximately 900 meters in depth and more than two kilometers of strike within the original survey area. The company added that it subsequently expanded ANT survey coverage to approximately 70 square kilometers to investigate the broader geological architecture of the Montauban district and identify additional priority targets.
Robb added, "We have spent considerable time compiling historical information, completing modern geophysical work, and developing an integrated geological model. We are now in a position to begin testing that work with the drill."
Gold and Silver Prices Stayed Elevated Ahead of Federal Reserve Meeting
Reuters wrote that market participants had widely expected the Federal Reserve to leave interest rates unchanged, although the CME FedWatch Tool showed a 31% probability of a 25-basis-point rate increase. Tzabouras added, "Today's announcement and press conference could spark significant volatility. Any hawkish signals would open the door to new 2026 lows, currently sitting at US$3,941, while any dovish tilt would give bullion the opportunity to extend its rebound beyond US$4,100."
The Reuters report also noted that traders had assigned a 77% probability to a September rate increase. It stated that gold had typically been viewed as an inflation hedge, but that higher interest rate environments tended to weigh on the non-yielding metal. Reuters added that Commerzbank had lowered its year-end gold price forecast to US$4,500 per troy ounce while expecting silver to reach US$67 per troy ounce by year's end.
According to CNBC, market expectations indicated a 70% probability that the Federal Reserve would hold rates steady and a 30% probability of a 25-basis-point increase, while markets had priced in a 76% chance of a September rate increase. The publication also stated that gold had been viewed as a hedge against inflation and that higher interest rates increased the opportunity cost of holding the non-yielding metal. It added that spot silver traded at US$57.65 per ounce, platinum at US$1,600.40 per ounce, and palladium at US$1,261 per ounce.
Recent market data showed silver remained elevated over longer time periods despite short-term volatility. As of July 28, the metal had declined 2.25% over one day, 2.93% over seven days, and 3.48% over one month. Over longer periods, however, silver had gained 49.62% during the previous year, 127.88% over five years, and 182.96% over 10 years.
Research Firms Highlight Production Timeline and Exploration Program
Atrium Research analysts Riley Venton, P.Eng., and Ben Pirie maintained a BUY rating and CA$1.30 target price on ESGold Corp. in a July 28 research note after the company received Authorization of Impact-Causing Exploration Work (ATI) from the Québec government for its Montauban Project.
The analysts described the approval as "a significant regulatory milestone," noting that it allowed the company to advance its exploration program in parallel with continued development of its fully permitted tailings reprocessing operation. They wrote that ESGold was "now finalizing drill-site preparation, access planning, contractor mobilization, and the sequencing of its initial drill targets to get drills turning," while maintaining their BUY rating and CA$1.30/share target price.
According to Atrium, the initial drilling campaign would focus on the historical crown-pillar area to better define the geometry, continuity, thickness and grade distribution of near-surface mineralization surrounding the former mine workings. The report stated that the crown pillar represented "a significant target which has not been systematically evaluated," with the potential to serve as an initial feed source after the project's tailings are exhausted. Atrium added that subsequent drilling was expected to test step-out and exploration targets generated through historical drilling, geological interpretation, Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) data and the company's evolving three-dimensional geological model.
The analysts also highlighted results from the initial ANT survey, which identified a mineralized corridor extending approximately 900 meters in depth and more than two kilometers along strike. They noted that the system widened at depth, remained open, and that survey coverage had since been expanded to approximately 70 square kilometers to identify additional exploration targets. According to the report, the upcoming drill program represented "a transition from geological interpretation to physical testing of the Montauban system," with results expected to refine the geological model and guide future exploration.
Atrium said the authorization followed continued operational progress at Montauban, including completion of an inspection program and approval of the remaining equipment for shipment, which it said was expected to arrive on site within 45 to 60 days. The report also noted that major mining equipment, including the concentrator and thickeners, was expected to arrive in August as preparations for production continued. Atrium identified construction completion and first production in the second half of 2026, commencement of drilling in the near term, and cash flow generation in 2027 as its principal upcoming catalysts.
Red Cloud Securities initiated coverage of ESGold on June 22 with a BUY rating and a CA$0.90 price target.
Analyst Alina Islam wrote that the company was "months from first production" at its fully permitted, funded, and under-construction Montauban gold-silver tailings reprocessing project, describing it as "a rare junior offering both near-term producer cash flow and explorer-style discovery potential."
The report stated that Red Cloud believed the company's available liquidity was sufficient "to fund the project to first pour without additional equity financings." It also pointed to exploration opportunities associated with the 2025 Ambient Noise Tomography survey, noting that the identified mineralized corridor was "essentially undrilled below ~200m." According to the report, "a successful result could add significant value to the story, while a negative result leaves the tailings and crown pillar economics entirely intact."
Red Cloud also identified several upcoming operational milestones, including planned step-out drilling during the third quarter of 2026, the first gold pour in the fourth quarter of 2026, conversion of the crown pillar resource to NI 43-101 compliance in 2027, and execution of a mica offtake agreement.
Drilling Program and Project Activities Advance
With the ATI now received, ESGold said it is finalizing drill-site preparation, access planning, contractor mobilization, and the sequencing of its initial drill targets. The program is expected to begin with drilling in the historical crown-pillar area, followed by targeted step-out holes designed to evaluate the potential continuation of mineralization along strike and at depth.
The company said its next exploration milestones include mobilization of drilling personnel and equipment, commencement of drilling, completion of the initial crown-pillar holes, core logging, sampling and laboratory analysis, and the release and integration of initial assay results. ESGold noted that the location, sequence, and scope of individual drill holes may be adjusted based on field conditions, geological observations, and program results.
According to the company, drill core generated during the program will be logged, sampled, and submitted to an accredited laboratory for analysis. The resulting data will be incorporated into the geological model and used to refine the location and sequencing of subsequent drill targets.
ESGold also stated that any potential future extraction of crown-pillar material remains subject to additional drilling, technical evaluation, engineering review, economic analysis, and any further regulatory approvals that may be required.
