Auro Metals Inc. (AURO:TSXV; AURFF:OTCPK) reported drill hole DSB-60 intersected 542 meters grading 0.60 g/t gold and 0.12% copper at Santa Barbara South in Ecuador.

Gold and copper investors are taking note of the latest assay results from Auro Metals Inc. (AURO:TSXV; AURFF:OTCPK).

Key Takeaways

  • Auro Metals reported the third batch of assay results from four holes at its Santa Barbara South zone, part of the Santa Barbara gold-copper project in Ecuador.
  • Drill hole DSB-60 intersected 542 meters (m) grading 0.60 g/t gold (Au) and 0.12% copper (Cu), with a gold grade roughly 15% higher than the project's inferred resource.
  • DSB-62 returned 149.5 m at 0.66 g/t Au, including a higher-grade zone of 29.4 m at 1.53 g/t Au starting near surface.
  • DSB-63 intersected 143 m at 0.74 g/t Au from surface, confirming mineralization remains open both up-dip and at depth.
  • Nineteen holes have now been completed, with assay results received for 10 and 9 more pending as four rigs continue drilling.
  • CEO Victor Feng said the results build on prior batches, continuing to demonstrate the scale and grade consistency of the porphyry system.

Further Assay Results Show Gold and Copper Mineralization

On July 28, 2026, Auro Metals released the third batch of drill results from its ongoing 2026 Phase 1 drill program at the company's 100%-owned Santa Barbara gold-copper project in the Zamora-Chinchipe province of southeastern Ecuador. The latest results include assays from four additional drill holes targeting the Santa Barbara South zone, where the company is testing the continuity of mineralization between historical drill intercepts while extending the known porphyry system in both the up-dip and down-dip directions.

Victor Feng, CEO of Auro Metals Inc., stated in the release: "These four holes drilled in our Phase I Drill Program at Santa Barbara South build upon the previous two batches of drill results and continue to highlight the scale and consistency of the Project. DSB-60 intersected 542 meters of continuous gold-copper mineralization, with the gold grade from this hole roughly 15% higher than the gold grade of the inferred resource from our Mineral Resource Estimate. DSB-62 intersected almost 150m of gold-copper mineralization with a higher-grade pocket starting near surface. DSB-63 confirmed that mineralization remains open in the up-dip direction towards surface and also remains open at depth. To date, assay results for 10 holes have been published, 9 holes are pending assays, and the four rigs on site continue turning. We look forward to sharing assay results when they become available."

Drill results for the four newly reported holes are as follows:

  • Drillhole DSB-60 intersected 542m grading 0.60 grams per tonne (g/t) Au and 0.12% Cu from 198m to 740m, and weak mineralization continued to the end of hole.
  • Drillhole DSB-62 intersected 149.5m grading 0.66 g/t Au and 0.06% Cu from 24.0m right below overburden sediments, including 29.4m 1.53 g/t Au and 0.11% Cu from 34.0m. Mineralization continues at the end of hole.
  • Drillhole DSB-63 intersected 143m grading 0.74 g/t Au and 0.10% Cu from surface, including 36.5m grading 1.25 g/t Au and 0.14% Cu from 30.0m, and 85.1m grading 0.44 g/t Au and 0.08% Cu from 165.9m. Weak mineralization continues at the end of hole.
  • Drillhole DSB-64 intersected 121.65m grading 0.44 g/t Au and 0.07% Cu from 20.5m right below overburden.

All four holes intersected broad zones of gold-copper mineralization beginning at or near surface, confirming the continuity of the Santa Barbara South porphyry system. According to the company, the latest results continue to demonstrate that mineralization remains open in both the up-dip and down-dip directions. Hole DSB-60 also confirmed extensive mineralization within basaltic andesite and diorite, while holes DSB-62 through DSB-64 supported the extension of mineralization toward surface and at depth.

Formerly known as Tincorp Metals Inc., Auro Metals Inc. is an exploration company that worked with Silvercorp Metals Inc. (SVM:TSX; SVM:NYSE) to acquire Santa Barbara Metals Inc., which holds a 100% interest in the Santa Barbara Gold-Copper Project and the Zamora Copper-Gold Belt in southeastern Ecuador. The company also owns 100% of the Porvenir Project and will acquire a 100% interest in the nearby SF Project in Bolivia.

Gold Impacted by Fed Decision

Junior miners and exploration companies hit the ground running this year after gold rallied at a high of US$5,500 per ounce in January. Many companies chose to begin exploration or production amid these highs. While prices have since fallen, and even dipped below US$4,000 in June, rates are still up 24% compared to July 2025, and Gold.org wrote that: "[T]he stage is set for a possible breakout. On the upside, clear catalysts — a worsening economy or renewed geopolitical shock, a shift towards lower interest-rate expectations, or a wave of dip buying — could reignite gold's momentum and lift it back towards US$4,500/oz or above."

On July 30, 2026, Trading Economics reported that ". . . gold fell below US$4,050 an ounce on Thursday, giving back the previous session's gains as traders reassessed the Federal Reserve's policy outlook after the central bank left interest rates unchanged." The article went on to argue that "Markets are now pricing in roughly a 67% chance of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike in September, up from 56% a day earlier, while expectations for a larger 50-basis-point increase have largely disappeared." Higher interest rates fuel fears of inflation, which has historically driven gold prices down.

In April, S&P Global wrote, "Gold is expected to remain volatile but structurally supported, with central bank demand and geopolitical risk helping to establish a price floor above recent correction lows."

Copper Demand to Rise

Demand for copper is expected to rise due to continued use in electronics, especially with the widespread construction of new data centers and defense needs America is experiencing. A report from Businessworld claimed that "global copper demand is gradually shifting towards strategic and less price-sensitive sectors such as AI infrastructure, defense, power grids, and clean energy systems. By 2040, these categories are expected to account for nearly 45% of total copper demand, up from 32% in 2024."

Copper has experienced some volatility this year. While a bull market for traders, physical products are trending toward a bear market due to potential tariffs. Last year, the looming potential of President Donald Trump's tariffs surged copper prices in the U.S. as American investors stockpiled the metal.

This hype created an overstocking of copper, widening the gap between futures and physical worth. "Collectively, inventories at the world's main exchanges have risen by more than 500,000 tons since the start of the year," stated a March 6 article by Bloomberg News

As of July 29, 2026, copper was trading at US$13,643.45 per tonne, down from its all-time high of US$14,800 per tonne in Q1 2026.

Expert Eyes Potential "Buy" Opportunity

Chen Lin of What is Chen Buying? What is Chen Selling? weighed in on the company on July 28, 2026, writing: "AURO.v CA$0.40 financing free trading is starting today. Last Friday, its share got hit hard due to traders anticipating the free trading. This week, its shares could get hit due to the early investors taking profits. Personally, I think it could be a good buying opportunity if the shares drop hard."

The next day, Chen Lin updated his quote, saying: "AURO.v shares were hit hard this week as the CA$0.40 financing started trading. They just announced another round of spectacular drilling results, and we expect more to come. AURO will be presenting on my panel at the MIF in September."

Phase 1 Drilling Program Continues

According to Auro's investor presentation, upcoming company catalysts include the continuation of the Phase 1 drill program in Q2 of 2026, with further results anticipated to be released as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a porphyry gold-copper deposit?

A: A porphyry deposit is a large mineral system that can contain gold, copper, and other metals spread throughout a broad volume of rock. While grades are often lower than narrow high-grade veins, porphyry deposits can support long-life, large-scale mining operations because of their size.

Q: Why do long drill intersections matter?

A: Long mineralized intervals can indicate a large, continuous mineral system rather than isolated pockets of ore. Investors often watch for both the length of an intercept and the grade to better understand a project's potential scale.

Q: What does "mineralization remains open" mean?

A: When a company says mineralization remains open, it means drilling has not yet found the edge of the deposit. Additional drilling could potentially expand the known resource in one or more directions, although there is no guarantee future results will do so.

Q: Why is near-surface mineralization important?

A: Mineralization that begins near the surface may be less expensive to access than deeper deposits if a mine is eventually developed. Near-surface discoveries can also improve the economics of a future mining project.

Q: What is a mineral resource estimate (MRE)?

A: A mineral resource estimate is an independent calculation of the amount and grade of minerals believed to be present at a project based on available drilling and geological data. Resource estimates are updated as new drilling provides additional information.
