Vault Strategic Mining Corp. (KNOX:TSX; KNXFF:OTC; M85O:FWB) submitted samples from its War Bond tungsten project in Nevada, hoping to create a domestic supply during wartime.

In a time of international conflict, metals investors are looking to tungsten producers as potentially critical stocks. See how Vault Strategic Mining Corp. (KNOX:TSX; KNXFF:OTC; M85O:FWB) fits into the picture after its newest press release.

Key Takeaways

  • Vault Strategic submitted 42 rock and soil samples for assay from its War Bond tungsten project in western Nevada.
  • Results will feed into a maiden NI 43-101 technical report, alongside data from a completed drone-based magnetic survey.
  • War Bond spans 20 claims (~400 acres) in Nevada's Delaware Mining District, covering the historical War Bond, Tactite, and Thursday workings.
  • Old, unverified records cited include a 1942 sample grading 14.40% WO3 (tungsten) — flagged by the company as pre-NI 43-101 data.

Company Completes Phase 1 Sampling at Nevada Site

On July 20, 2026, Vault Strategic announced it had submitted 42 rock and soil samples to ALS Geochemistry in Reno, Nevada, for analysis of a broad suite of conventional and strategic metals and key indicator elements at its War Bond tungsten project. The project encompasses three areas: War Bond, Tactite, and Thursday. The results will be compared to data from a drone-borne magnetic survey and will form part of the foundation for the maiden NI 43-101 technical report.

Quinn Field-Dyte, CEO of Vault Strategic, said in the release: "The completion of our Phase 1 field program and submission of 42 samples mark an important step in advancing War Bond. The assay results, together with the drone-borne magnetic survey data, will be incorporated into the maiden NI 43-101 technical report being prepared by Bill Feyerabend and Amazona Enterprises. This work is expected to strengthen our geological understanding, refine exploration priorities, including drill targeting, and provide clear recommendations for the project's next phase of advancement. With the United States and its allies increasingly focused on securing domestic supplies of critical minerals, we believe War Bond's historical tungsten production, strategic location in Nevada, and modern exploration potential make it a timely and compelling project for Vault."

The War Bond claim package includes 20 unpatented lode mining claims that cover 400 acres in the Delaware Mining District of Western Nevada and encompasses the historically producing War Bond mine. Historical descriptions associate tungsten mineralization in the area with scheelite-bearing tactite or skarn developed near granite-limestone contacts. Importantly, the press release noted that: "To define current mineral resources, assess metallurgy and evaluate economic viability, the company would be required to complete confirmation drilling, modern metallurgical studies, updated technical evaluations, NI 43-101-compliant mineral resource estimates and appropriate feasibility or economic studies. There is no assurance that historical results will be confirmed or that the Project will advance to economic viability."

Vault Strategic is a North American resource company focused on exploration and development of critical mineral projects in top-tier mining jurisdictions.

Tungsten's Defense Role Grows Amid Supply-Chain Concerns

According to Vault Strategic's press release, "War Bond's strategic relevance is reinforced by escalating geopolitical tensions, uncertainty affecting global shipping routes, and continued restrictions on critical mineral exports. As the United States, Canada, and allied nations work to strengthen secure domestic supply chains, tungsten remains an essential defense and industrial metal due to its exceptional hardness, density, and heat resistance."

The release goes on to list some of tungsten's top uses:

  • Armor-piercing ammunition and kinetic energy penetrators;
  • Missile guidance and weapons systems;
  • Aerospace and aviation components;
  • High-performance cutting and machining tools;
  • Semiconductor manufacturing equipment; and
  • Energy infrastructure and advanced industrial technologies.

Tungsten is a niche metal market, but its performance has rivaled larger markets. "Project Blue estimates its value at about US$16 billion this year — roughly 5% of the copper market at current prices. It is also far more opaque and illiquid, as it does not trade on major exchanges. Even so, its gains over the past year have far outpaced those of commodities such as gold and oil," according to an article by Mining.com.

China, Russia, and North Korea produce roughly 90% of the world's tungsten, which has left the U.S. scrambling to secure solid domestic supply sources since President Trump's tariffs sparked tension between the nations.

Ashitha Sivaprasad for Reuters wrote about tungsten's market on April 29, 2026, writing, "Project Blue estimates the global tungsten market was about 129,000 metric tons in 2025. It added that defense demand, currently estimated at around 12% of the tungsten market, is expected to grow to roughly 15% between 2027 and 2028, as stockpile replenishment keeps demand elevated" and that "the automotive sector, consuming 25%-30% of tungsten, is currently the largest consumer, though rising EV adoption may curtail consumption, [while] defense-sector demand is growing about 8% annually, and if trends hold, defense could overtake automotive as tungsten's largest consumer by the mid-2030."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is tungsten used for?

A: Tungsten is a critical mineral valued for its exceptional hardness, density, and heat resistance. It is used in armor-piercing ammunition, aerospace components, semiconductor manufacturing, industrial cutting tools, energy infrastructure, and other high-performance applications.

Q: What is tungsten trioxide (WO₃)?

A: Tungsten trioxide (WO₃) is the standard unit used to report tungsten grades in mining. A higher percentage of WO₃ generally indicates a higher concentration of tungsten in the rock, making it an important measure when evaluating exploration results.

Q: Why is tungsten considered a critical mineral?

A: Tungsten is considered a critical mineral because it is essential for defense systems, aerospace, semiconductor manufacturing, and advanced industrial technologies. Since most of the world's tungsten supply comes from a small number of countries, many governments are working to develop secure domestic sources.

Q: What is an NI 43-101 Technical Report?

A: An NI 43-101 Technical Report is a standardized scientific report required for most Canadian mining companies. It summarizes a project's geology, exploration results, and mineral potential using strict reporting standards designed to provide investors with reliable, independently reviewed information.

Q: What is a skarn deposit?

A: A skarn deposit is a type of mineral deposit that forms when hot, mineral-rich fluids from magma react with surrounding rocks, often limestone. Skarn deposits can contain valuable minerals such as tungsten, copper, gold, iron, and zinc, and are important exploration targets worldwide.
