Market Astrology: Rare Earth Heads Up!

In my China Restrictions Coming for Rare Earths article, I predicted the dates July 11–13 for news regarding potential further restrictions on China's rare earth element (REE) exports. My prediction is unfolding as Reuters reported that on Tuesday the WTO ruled China broke international law when it curbed REE exports. Although the report suggests China may reform its exports based in part on WTO rules, EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht will nonetheless be visiting Beijing this week to further address the issue. In the past, De Gucht has commented, "We certainly have to look at other sources of rare earths," which is most likely the reality check of any negotiations with China.

A Mars conjoin Pluto aspect, which is powerful, is in Leo in China's natal chart. It is ruthless power, an over the top desire to be king. China's chart reveals square its Venus, which for De Gucht, is even worse because it means the Chinese also may be ruthless and cunning negotiators. The Mars/Pluto aspect for China means it wants not only the best military, most-advanced space program, best economy and over the-top decadence and luxury beyond what's been achieved anywhere in the world.

In his negotiations with China, De Gucht potentially may experience the transiting mercury (rules negotiations) will conjoin exactly the Mars/Pluto aspect in China's chart. This suggests China will be on top of its game in sharp strategic mental intellectual strategy. It's already raised environmental concerns that could be a smack to the WTO and any lawsuits regarding REE exports. China is holding the cards in this poker game and I believe, in the fall, the tension will escalate with potentially more export restrictions and controversy.
