"Hawthorne Minerals Ltd. – Some less than optimal financing choices were made during the past year, but Hawthorne also has a management team with a proven track record and some very good prospects in B.C. plus a mill that is fully permitted. I think subscribers should keep their eyes peeled on some potential big news relating to funding and acquisitions early in 2010."

"In Toronto, Hawthorne Gold Corp (TSX-V: HGC) outperformed much of the North American gold sector, as it actually climbed to trade nearly 3% higher than Monday's close."

"Another gold producer I like an awful lot is Hawthorne Gold Corp. Always, you know, you go with the people. Hawthorne's management team is headed up by two individuals who were involved with the development of Eldorado Gold Corporation and Bema Gold Corporation, two well-known and successful gold mining companies. (Kinross Gold Corporation [NYSE:KGC; TSK:K] acquired Bema in 2007). I think they're going to have their third success story in Hawthorne.

They should be producing gold on a small scale at Table Mountain in British Columbia, where they have a fully permitted mine and mill. They also are finding some lower-grade open pit gold, with pockets of very high grade, which they probably can combine with very high-grade underground material from Table Mountain along with the resource from the Taurus deposit, which is next door, to feed the mill. So Hawthorne is another favorite, another penny stock that could evolve into a big growth story."

"I'm not much of a horseracing fan. But I'm told that if you want to have a good chance of winning you need to bet on the jockey, not the horse. That's because good jockeys get good horses and of course they presumably know how to ride them well, too.

Picking a good 'jockey' is good advice when buying gold mining stocks, too. Good management will find good properties and once they have acquired good properties they will know how to make them into profitable mining operations.

Richard Barclay, Hawthorne Gold Corp.'s president and COO, and Richard Beley, chairman, are both established among the best jockeys in the mining business. At least that is true when it comes to building successful gold mining companies.

An example of thinking outside of the box can be seen from Hawthorne's operation on its lower-grade bulk-tonnage Taurus Gold Deposit located next to its high-grade Table Mountain Gold Deposit. Previous owners of the Table Mountain Property had difficulty securing sufficient mill feed from it to keep the company's mill running on a steady basis.

Now it looks like the Hawthorne management team may be on the way to solving that problem. They have discovered pockets of considerably higher-grade ore on the Taurus that can be mined via open pit and fed into the mill along with higher-grade gold ore from the Table Mountain Property and with production scheduled to begin by the end of 2009, we should know fairly quickly how well that plan works out, although we want to caution our readers to realize significant production is not likely to take place until 2010."

"Chen Lin and I met with Rick Barclay in New York last Wednesday. What I came away with from our meeting was an impression that Table Mountain and the Taurus Prospect are enormous. The Greenstone Belt, which hosts the gold in this property stretches some 41 kilometers north and south. The area where most of the exploration has been done so far is around the Cusac underground mine.

Secondly, this past week the company announced some very impressive, higher-grade gold values on surface on the Taurus Property, where a 1 million-ounce resource averages approximately 1 gram per ton. The thinking now is that this material may be mineable along with the higher-grade underground material at Table Mountain.

. . .Hawthorne has not gone through the formal process of gaining feasibility studies and doing scoping studies, so we have not placed them among our 'B' progress companies. Likely this company will jump right over 'B' progress status into 'A,' because the skill sets that this senior management team brings to shareholders has the ability to efficiently cut corners without considerably increasing project risk. We would feel less comfortable with most other companies seeking to get into production the same way. But this management team has done it twice before. As I said before, I'm betting they will succeed in establishing a third mining company to add to their list of accomplishments. If I'm right, there will be some very wealthy shareholders made by Hawthorne."
